Egg ....

I even hunted a good price on S03's.

They are a great tyre when new! If I had KP's money I'd get a set every 10k.
Just couldn't justify the cost knowing they wear out so quick.
S02 is probably an even better performer, but wears even quicker and has the same poor wet weather performance when half worn.
I dunno :) I'm still holding out for a set of G3's :) 400+ on back order in my size and no boat yet :(
Drive a performance spec Pirelli across the Nullabor in Summer and you'll never look at them again. :) yes, overpriced and don't suit our conditions in my opinion. Though their middle of the road tyres in smaller diameter are quite ok. (though a tad overpriced still)
Same with Yokies, just not worth the dough!
Cheers,

Stear Clear of Sava's........

i went for falkens front and rear picked them up for $155 each, excellent in the dry handles like its on rails, not too bad in the wet keeps a fair bit of traction.

When talking about tyres; I think all people

posting should state the tyre sizes they are talking about. Someone, in one of the posts, stated something similar.

Good to see that someone here thinks Kumho

are good, I was starting to feel terrible for advising for consideration, not only that, I have them on my car!

Really though, I only had them for a month now and am very happy with them so far. They seem to be a good alrounder. Besides, been down the road of 300bucks per tyre and to my opinion, never again.
My conclusion has long been if you drive like a maniac even 1000 bucks a tyre won't save you.

A good test is, take your car around a round about in the wet at flat stick and see if you loose it or not. (I already know the answer).

Mixed opinion on Kumho's

in the dry, 712's are absolutely great tyres. They hold right the way through first in my adequately powered Z, which to me is no small ask. In the wet however they are so-so..... to be honest aside from my old Good Year Ducaro F1's that almost came close, I've never found any tyres on the Z that were adequate for anything more than sedate daily driving.

Egg ....

712's

I got onto them when they first came out pretty much.
And my initial impression were excellent value for money and great in the dry, ok in the wet, long lasting and cheap!
But :) always a but... they go a bit hard with age or maybe even wear.
And I believe the sidewalls are questionable... not much sidewall flex which makes for tight handling but the impact strength is questionable as 'normal' street driving ruptured a sidewall on one of mine. :(
They wont grow on you Ben, they become unpredictable with wear and let go with little warning near their performance edge which constantly drops away, and just get worst and worst in the wet.
Ohhh well, was a fan. :)

Thirded, Kumho's should be your last choice

I am currently running Kumho ECSTA SUPRA 712's 255 ZR17 on the rear on my Zed and they would have to be the worse performing tyres I have ever used. Traction in the dry is abysmal and even worse in the wet.
They have a high amount of road noise and squeal for almost no reason at all. I have also not found the wear rate to be exceedingly great either, probably due to the amount of time they spend spinning instead of gripping.
If you are serious about performance then steer well clear of them, I know I will not be buying them again in the future.

WHEELS is just one of them that do the test

Look at MOTOR and various european magazines. They have goodyear as the winner. And I can't find advertising for them anywhere in most magazine. So unless you read the tests, you won't even know they exist, though the tyre outlet sells heaps of them too.I didn't know until my tyre retailer told me and did some research then I believe in them too, used them, and still believed in them.Hmm :YD . Pretty much no advertising but good results, must make quite a bit of money with all the saving from less advertising. :D

still stick like flys to shit ,but mind you they are 275's but they havnt gone hard and they are a good 16months old ,the wear is my fault;)

Hey Paul.....>>

I thought you had your G3s, I didn't realise that you were still waiting. I wanted to get them after everything I had read and heard about them but they don't sell them in Australia to fit the 17s on the back of my car. After some more research I decided on the Toyo Proxes T1-S and I am very impressed. These things really hold and the ride is beautiful and quiet. I hadn't realised just how noisy my old Dunlops were until I replaced them. We still haven't had any really wet weather down here to give them a good test but the indication from the little bit of wet driving I have done is that they will be good.

Well I agree, but how do you define

a good tyre if not from tests and "research". They don't have a goodyear advertisement in the mags as I can tell. They always have Potenza ad at the back of the magazine however and they never won.And we're not really in position to try new tyres everyday. But, yes, I don't like subarus and these people are pushing them too much. :N( And Holdens too.Just have to filter the truth from the junks 8D .

Interesting test.....>>

I don't think I could find a single tyre that would pass your test of take your car around a round about in the wet at flat stick and see if you loose it or not.

erichns S15

Mine passes

I gave it stick in the wet, nothing losing at all. The rear stays where they are. Of course I got an NA. TT like yours would always lose it no matter what :YD .But it's starting to wear a bit now, a little controllable slide is happening now, which is good for control.

18. WYKKED

WYKKED 2 Much Trouble

Did you give it "stick" or "full stick"....>

I think even with an NA if you tried to go through a roundabout in the wet with the accelorator fully floored you would go around sideways.

19. Egg

Egg ....

Thought about them.

But didn't think they'd last long enough.
Yes, still waiting and this is the last time they'll tell me 'not in yet'.
Four weeks to wait and my tyres are getting rather bald.
Just really don't want to pay more money for an inferior tyre that will wear faster. (lucky I had some old spares laying around and only do about 100k's per week ATM)
Ohhh yeah, they just upgraded the G3 sizes... twice as many sizes supposedly available now.
T1-S were a bit expensive in a 265/18... though yeah should suit you and the odd track day.
Toyo have been underatted for years.
Cheers,

BigCol That's what she said...

I can vouch for that ...
