I'll be getting some new tyres as my current WANLI's are dying (THANK GOD). These were the tyres that were recommended to me by the trusty lads at Bob Jane. Tried a search on these tyres incase someone has had experience with them but didnt find much info. Please tell me what you think. So far I'm leaning towards the Yoko's.Yokohama S306 - $190 each
    Federals - $150 each
Sava - $129 each (on special)
    Dunlop SP3000A - $176 eachThese are all 225/50/16 - Stock rims obviously.Any info would be great guys..:)Cheers

Just like I always recommend. I got them for $270 each for 255/40/17 from the guys that I know (special). Would be close to $200 for your stock size if you know the right people. If you shop around, some shops might give you that special. I got mine from Beaurepaires, in New Zealand.

What about Yokohama AVS sport or Hankook Ventus K104 which is supposedly good value if on a budget. Good dry performance, a bit crap on wet.Shifter, are you running 17 up front and 18 at the back?

    Yes, for now...

I wanted a tyre thats much wider than what the 17x8 inch rim would fit. So had to go next step up to 18x9's. Front tyres are almost brand new so when my front tyres need changing and I have more money I may go to 18's on the front

  7. BigCol

    BigCol That's what she said...

I'll second that. Best tyre I've ever had. (n/m)

Look at KUMHO tyres, I got a pair of these

for the back about a month ago and they are great. 225/50/16

Long life, V.G traction in the wet, etc... for $135 each. This was a price I could not ignore. It was from a local supplier not a big brand type like BOB JANE, etc.

    Worth considering, I think.

Yes I'm keeping that in mind......

but the rear tyres are really bad. Driving in the wet is like ice skating, and trying to take off in the wet, on a hill is traumatic because the tyres dont grip and the right side of the car flicks out. Realistically ben, those mags may be too expensive for me to buy at the moment. Next year would be a definite (as I will have a full time job), but this year I am struggling..:( Plus, I can sense this year being one of those "ahh shite, its broken" kind of years. Let me know the price still, incase I can "afford" them or I win tattslotto..:)Cheers

    I've had Dunlop Formula FM901's for 40,000km

And I've never had a problem with traction in the wet or in the dry, and they have lastest me 40,000km over 3 years. It looks like they have been replaced by the DIREZZA DZ101 in terms of a similar tread pattern, but the new tyres have silica in the rubber compound these days:[image]http://www.dunloptyres.com.au/sptimages/fs_direzza_dz101.jpg[/image]Below you can see the difference in the tread pattern between mine and BigCol's new Goodyear tyres:
[image]http://members.optusnet.com.au/rbarciko/300zx/front-large.jpg[/image]I'm also looking at getting tyres soon, as I'm getting close to the wear indicator, and will be looking at getting either the Bridgestone GIII or S03 (which are exactly the same tread, but the S03 is a softer compound), and I've been quoted between $240 and $250 a tyre: Bridgestone S03:

    go to tirerack.com

and navigate to the tyre section and read the reviews and rankings.http://www.tirerack.com/tires/surveyresults/max.jspThat will make your decision easier :D Recent WHEELS magazine did another tyre test and guess which tyre came on top? ;) It won so many tests, with front, or rear wheel drives, small or large.Only drawback would be it's a bit funny when getting off the line, probably not too good for drags. Otherwise it's the world's best wet braking tyre, plus wet traction, cornering, it's soft and comfortable, not noisy and with treadwear of 280.Dunlop Direzza would be cheaper alternative, plus consider Hankook Ventus Sport K104 if on a budget :YD And I heard Michelin Pilot Sports 2 are beating the goodyear just now. Probably a little more expensive? :`(

SO3 is top of the line while GIII

is a pretender to the throne? :*

    DO NOT go for Kumho!

I have Kumhos all round on stock rims, only reason I got them was because (a) my old tyres were so shagged that at any moment I might have end up head on with a pole, (b) I only had $600 to spend at that time (I get paid monthy:`( ) and (c), Kumhos were the only thing they had in that size, in that price range, and four of in stock. They are what I consider to be a fairly dodgy tyre, traction in the wet is almost non existant. I am actually scared when I drive in the wet.

Seconded, KUMHOs should be your last choice

The Zed people here in NZ had bad experience with them. And if you look at current WHEELS magazine, the Kumho finishes distant last, it shouldn't even be in the review.

    Just add water

Drive in the wet with the GS-D3 and it's as if there's no water on the road. I feel like I can beat the TT zeds with my NA on a wet track if they got other tyres.Tried to spin my car on purpose in the wet, doesn't happen. I'm sure a TT would still spin them though :-Z

    salvas

i run those salvas on the rear of my car
    good in the dry
a handful in the wet, good for lighting it up and doin circle work,
my tyres were purhased in NOV 02 and still goin hard today prolly used half the tread
but i only drive the car on weekends as i have a work car during the week.
i'd reccomend falkens on the rear i use them on the front and i think they are a lot beter
dont get me wrong the salva is up for the job
i only use them cause they will last me a while dont wanna be spending heaps on tyres if i hardly drive the car
anyways which ever way you go i am sure youwill choose wisely

    300luva Barely Legal Performance

    Yokahomo 539's

Just got my Falken's swapped for Yokies and it's the best thing I ever did! The Falkens were like Ice-skates in the wet and like others have said, the Yokies are hard to spin out, they just keep on gripping! I think they are close to $350 per tyre but the Manager at Bob-Jane (Capalaba) fixed me up, paid about $800 for the lot. Maybe opportunity for a group buy at some stage.Nate

  18. Cra-Z-Boy

Cra-Z-Boy no nissan at all :(

it all depends on what Kumho you use aswell

i have Kumhos all round ECSTA SUPRA 712 and they have been the best i have had on the car to this point ,they stick like flys to shit so i dont think all tyres by any brand are all good or all bad ,i had YOKs 539's on before and they were the biggest crap for money but here someone else says they are great so it all depends on what size and tyre type you run,i run 235 45 17 front /275 40 17 rear and will stay with Kumho until i find something better but dont think that will happen to soon as this is the 5th tyre brand i have had on the car and its way ahead of the rest :YD :| :-Z

  19. Egg

    Egg ....

    No!

S03's are overated and only any good when reasonably new!
Once S03's are half worn they're treacherous in the wet... and being so soft that don't take all that long either.
GIII is a superior tyre in my opinion... better in the wet when new, better in the wet when worn, less noise and more comfort, cheaper, and outlast the S03.
No contest in my penny pinching opinion. :)
    Cheers,

    erichns S15

    Thanks for opinion on S03

I was considering it, but price was rip-off. Now I know what to avoid. :N( Another tyre to avoid is the Pirelli brands, they don't do too well in tests, yet consistently being at the top 3 or so in prices. Poor value for money. Maybe if you know someone it will be different.
