I'm assuming the Aus headlights are no different than the JDM (non 99/00 spec) headlights.
The Aus headlights also have no nipples on them, correct?
The Aus headlights also have 4 adjusters for headlight beam adjustment, correct? As opposed to the USDM and Cdn spec Z's which use only 2 adjusters which move both high and low beam light units at the same time whereas the JDM adjusters have separate left/right up/down for each light unit inside.

I can't see there being a difference to the overall internal dynamics of either the JDM, Aus, USDM, Cdn spec or and spec Z for that matter. Design and layout of the actual high beam and the projector units within the headlight are probably all the same.
I think the only way to actually confirm this would be to find a US or Cdn owner of a domestic Z and ask if they installed a JDM headlight and if they had ever taken apart both sets of lights.
Of course the only obvious difference to the internals of the projector unit would be the design of the shield inside. I found one thread on tt.net where someone had the USDM and the JDM shields remove and placed beside each other.
http://www.twinturbo.net/net/viewmsg.aspx?forum=technical&msg_id=881894&forum=technical&dtSearch=0 The owners dissambled a 99/00 Spec headlight and made comparisons of the USDM projector shield to the 99/00 Spec one.

99/00 Spec on left and USDM on right.

The obvious difference I noticed was that the 99/00 spec as a stepped design whereas the USDM has a drop-off design. Meaning the 99/00 Spec does not have the "flair" rising up the curbside of the beam whereas the USDM ones do. Now, since my JDM (non 99/00 Spec) headlights also have a flair to the curbside (obviously to the opposite surbside of the USDM's) that I would assume that the JDM shields are designed exactly like the USDM ones but obviously the reverse/opposite immage for the other side of the road - LHD vs RHD.
In my case, in order to modify my JDM shields to illuminate the my curbside (to the right) I would make a mod to place the cut drop-off of the shield on the opposite side.
I've got a few ideas on how to do this but won't speculate right now until I've actually taken apart my spare set of JDM headlights. My initial thought was to attach some thin SS sheet metal to the curvature of the shield the runs straight across and even with the top portion of the shield - basically a straight square shield. Then, instead of doing a drop-off cut on the opposite side, I'd cut the (attached) sheet metal and the cast shield in a stepped fashion. Something similar as to what the person did to the 99.00 Spec shield.

Just ideas at this point in time though.
