TT to NA Swap just some food for thought. if this TT is really wat u want in a car but you want it legal with the new laws. and i say this as just a thught then why dont you find a running NA engine swap it out for the TT. im looking at converting my NA to TT and all i really need is a TT engine so im not sure how difficult it would be to swap engines or swap between cars but if the chassis are essentially the same then would it be not so ridiculous if you swapped the TT engine, coolers and bits, loom and ecu for a NA engine and loom and ecu?? again just a thought, im no zx speacialist good luck
He can get it engineered and reregistered lol, anything is possible if he has really set his mind to it.
this is like converting a gun into a water pistol. i drive an NA. Heaps of guys drive non-turbos. I'm 19 going on 20 this year, and i've owned my zed for almost a year. I considered the same thing as you before i knew anything about cars, but soon realised that it was a ridiculous idea and i'd have sunk 10 thousand bucks down the drain in around 2 years with nothing to show for it (from buying a TT, converting to NA then back to TT when i was legal to drive one). What's the point? I could buy two separate cars for that kind of money. mod an NA nicely and it'll be pretty quick around town. Sure, not as breath-taking above 70 but down low it can be pretty snappy. There are plenty of zeds for sale, most at ridiculously low prices. If you are known by the cops do NOT buy a 300zx, especially a tt.
Thats a strange thing to say Jedi, the compression ratio being the ratio of volume between piston at TDC and piston at BDC, a TT at no boost or at full boost will still have a compression ratio of 8.5/1 But thats probably just being Technical Once the mechanical details of the de-turboing were done I don't think anything else would have to be done, it would just be a slug!!! and a very silly thing to do, why spend a lot of money on a car with basically low value to make a car with less value???:banned: Should probably kill this thread soon
jesus christ dude just buy a 1.8ltr s13 their legal for p platers, s13's do no exceed power to weight ratio
i think the standard head gasket size is about 1.5mm to 1.8mm for both, but you can get 1mm and 1.2mm im pretty sure, and the pistons are essentially the same size, its the top of the piston which makes the difference, a normal or high comp piston has a flat or bump in the top of it where as a low comp's have groves/pivots in the top
300zx styling to a silvia? no comparison you guys know that a zed is the SEX! thanks for the comments!....im not too familair with import engines...more v8s and such...
WTF, is sooooooooo special, about this ttz, that can't be done to an NA z????????????? This question still(after all the replies) has not been answered. There's a lot of valid reasons here, why not to do it, but still no valid reason for buying a ttz, and performing this operation, unless you wish to change it back to a tt, once you have your open licence. If this is the case, why not buy a NA half cut, then you will have most of the parts required. The other question I would like to ask, is, why are you already so well known, and hassled by the law, toolman? Is it because you are possibly already a danger, to other road users, when you get behind the wheel? If this is the case, then I strongly suggest that you don't buy a Zed, because, I for one (and I'm sure a lot of other forum members/zed owners would agree), when I say, we don't need complete morons, getting behind the wheel of a Zed, and giving the rest of us a bad name. That's my dollars worth (geez inflation sucks) Andy
what? are you 10? i dont have to explain why they like me! and no its no cause i cant drive or have a record of bad driving ffs ppl like you would give it a bad name for being so nice ey? i am deeply thankful for all the people who help on this forum... but for people who hinder me just bugger off!
No actually, he would still be in the wrong. Your not allowed a car that has had modifications that require certification from the mod plate giver-outerers (can't remember their proper name). I do know of one person who converted a TT to NA. It was for sale not long ago. Still had HICAS, TT diff etc, but he put in a NA engine as he bought the car with a dead TT engine in.
I'm pretty sure you just fill in one of these in WA: http://www.dpi.wa.gov.au/mediaFiles/lic_modform_prodveh.pdf
yep, on a scale of one to 10, I'm a 10, coz I'm such a reeeeeeeeeely nice guy who can't spel pwoperwy, but I can weed n wite.
dude, i dont think your looking hard enough. i wouldent ever but a vg30dett and make it a na, that goes with any other motor. look hard and find a good na, dont say theres none out there cause im 110% sure theres at least one in melbourne. if u need help or want a forum member to go with you to inspect a car just ask, im sure someone will stick there hand up
yeah yeah i know theres a few out there just all the ones ive looked at had too much to work on them my dads alrite on the mech side...but when i comes to body work and such,,,pretty bad,,and all the ones ive looked at have been horrible.. i guess ill just keep looking..thanks
Buy the TT Just reg it under your dad's name, and drive without the P plates up! No problems.. Be worth it..
why pay more for less???????? If your hearts set on a 300ZX i can't blame you. Take everyones advice WAIT till you find a good NA. Once you have had it properly checked over buy it. If your state has no good ones thean look nationally into other states. or look at getting one sent from Japan. Travel if you can't wait till there is a good one locally. The real problem is people with the good Zeds don't want too sell and people with the crap ones want to sell but no one wants to buy. (generally speaking of course, there are exceptions to this) It would take you a good few weeks to convert your TT to NA + alot of stuffing around, plus it would add an extra $3,000 to your purchase price. And after doing the modificaiton your car will be worth less. Factory NA's are worth around $3,000 less than a TT, not to mention that not many people would be after a NAed factory TT, with sub NA performance . you could better spend those few weeks and $6,000 it would cost : 1. fixing up a NA that is in okay condition or, 2. flying over Australia to buy that perfect NA,or 3. importing one from Japan. Most of us are saying that its a bad idea to convert . Because its a bad idea! listen to everyone, they have a valid point. If you are smart about it you will save yourself time and money (which you can spend on your new car once you get it :zlove: )
There is an easy way. Have the wastegates jammed open. That way NO boost. No need to take anything off at all. Or disconnect the water temp sensor and put it into safety boost. If an engineer did it and certified the turbos were disabled it might qualify for a P Plater ..doubt it tho Cumm'on guys the N/A and the T/T are NOT that radically different at all. Some TT snobbery at play I think.
N/A and the T/T are NOT that radically different yes they are, just buy an na, this rubbish should be in nzr.
