Shannons Insurance does recognise this forum membership.

Check with WYKKED and/or Blipman on this, as Shannons partly sponsored the Gilgandra Meet two years ago.

I am insured by them for $1250 p.a.(Daily driver, no limited K's,$500 excess, 65% NCB, no previous rating, as I was driving a company car), and as stated several times in the past, have had absolutely no problems with regard to "mods", agreed value($27.5K), or accident claims. A recent "car park incident" resulted in a $3000 repair quote. They sent an assessor to my home (after accepting a claim over the phone), and one hour after the inspection, the repairer had approval to do the work (this include $750 to repair one Zepter rim). From my experience with Shannons, I cannot see anything to complain about at all. This hasn't been the case in dealing with other insurers in the past.

Now it all makes sense!!! THIS IS A "MUST READ".

I finally understand your maniacal attacks on my one-time occupation.

Shannons, NA Zed, $17000 cover, Rating 1, $ 807 per year

inner suburb of Melb too, garaged at the rear of my house. Initially insured with GIO along with my other cars, until I read a post here a week ago, which made me check with GIO again, and would you beleive it they insured me by mistake, and I did tell the rep that it WAS an IMPORT,
I was offered cover till the end of the year, but the mongrels wouldnt put it in writing, only included as a note on their system Told them it wasnt good enough ( just in case of a claim ) so told them to shove it, and went with Shannons.

Please guys do check your policies,

    Jez

Out of all the quotes I got, Shannons came out on top.

$558/Year, $400 excess, '90 TT Auto, agreed value $15K, Daily Driver. 29y/o rating 1 with 1 claim about 9 years ago which I found strange they wanted to know about since the rest only want to know the last 5 years history. Being a so called 'Insurance Specialist' I was sure they would be over the top but was pleasantly surprised. The next closest was NRMA at $740

    OK, a little history........>>

For members of this site who have been around for at least 3 years and have owned their car for that period of time the following probably isn't news. For newer members it will be.

Go back about 5 years and as far as an insurance company was concerned owning an imported Japanese turbo car put you right into the same category as aids patients, in other words they didn't want to know us. Like a few other members I saw my premium double one year, and then be refused the next. That was with Lumleys, who insured all my company's cars, and even though I was over 30, and a rating one they were more intertested in the car than the driver. Shannons were also going through a rough patch following the death of founder Robert Shannon (March 2000), who I was lucky enough to have the pleasure of meeting during negotiations we had while I was VP of the Victorian Street Machine Association. He was a true motoring enthusiast, but with his passing the underwriters stepped in and started running the show. They stopped insuring our cars and a number of members had policy termination letters instead of renewals.

During the GP Rally of 2001 I spoke with the Shannons reps (they were/are major sponsors) and was informed that they were slowly winning control of the company back and hoped to be able to offer me a policy very soon. I bugged them about it for the next 6 months or so and finally....Success. The stipulation was that they only wanted to insure car enthusiasts, so membership of a car club and participation in car related events meant that you were the sort of owner they wanted. Enthusiasts are more likely to look after their cars, be selective on where they park it and make sure it is maintained to a higher standard than the average road user. That is why they ask seemingly stupid questions too weed out the undesirables.

Since not everyone wants to join a car club and pay annual fees, and since this forum is essentially an "electronic club" I once again spoke to Shannons about recognising the 300ZX Owners Association of Australia as a club. They didn't have a problem with that, and even went so far as to provide the goody bags for our very first Zed Fest in Gilgandra (note to Rob/Lou, time to make some inquiries for Coona).

We have moved on, and so have Shannons who now offer home insurance and Bike insurance, and their call center has grown accordingly. In the old days all the staff were car enthusiasts too, but not today. If you ring up and get somebody that doesn't want to listen then I would strongly suggest calling back the next day at a different time. If you can go to a Shannons office in person that is even better, and can save you money (it did for me).

Shannons may not be for everyone, but they should always be considered, and be prepared to haggle.

PS. I have two cars and my home and contents insurance with Shannons. I do not recieve any financial kickbacks from them, but they are the only company who would insure my Zed for $20,000 and give me automatic right of retention (if the car is written off I get the $20,000 and the car), and they were cheaper on house/contents then Sun (who we used to be with).

There is a problem with calling back a second time

if you've already provided them with your details.

The next time you speak with someone your details will come up on their computer screen along with the original quote. It then becomes difficult the get them to drop the price of that quote.

but there are lots of people who dislike you here without criminal records?

    Can you explain that?

Besides, I have no convictions, which means, only charges

You can't have a criminal record unless you are convicted.

You claimed to have a criminal record, it was your post (or did I make you do it?)

no shit dumbass, dont state the obvious or anything but when you speak

to shannons, a charge/conviction is taken to them as a record. I informed him i wasn't convicted but it didn't make any difference.

you can be charged but not CONVICTED which means you were not found

guilty!! This is why WHEN I WAS IN COURT, the magistrate simply said 'when you fill out forms that ask about criminal records, you tick 'charged' not the 'convicted' box. When you don't pay lots of money and get 'convicted' that means you were guilty (yes 90% of the time you can get out of things because our system is bodgy)!

You really are, the thickest headed ex-copper ever.

by the way, i have papers IN FRONT OF ME to prove it. I am not going

to scan them for everyone to see but it clearly states

    CONVICTED [ ]

    CHARGED [x]

dickhead. Call up your lawyer and maybe he can explain it to you, but wait... he has a uni degree.. he wont know what he is talking about

It's this inconsistency that I find frustrating!!!

Shannons informed me that I couldn't have first salvage rights if my car was written off!!!! I would have to bid at auction for it along with everyone else?? yet obviously form WYKKED's post that is not the case in ALL examples?? I wish they would just make it simple and fair for EVERYONE!! just because we are new & inexperienced with all things ZED doesn't mean we don't love our cars!! :zlove:we're just getting out of first gear instead of cruising in 5th!!

Also they informed me that they do recognise our forum & take this into "consideration" when providing quotes .....although they didn't know I was a member when they changed my premium as I have only recently joined ...and it didn't make any difference when they found out that I was???? .....but their is no formal %discount as such??? pity bout that!!
