After doing some searching on the forum regarding the never ending question about insurance....I was happy to see a thread stating Shannons ( who I'm already insured with although not too happy about being age 37, A1 driving record, N/A Oz spec 2+2 Zed with only a cat back sports exhaust, pod filter & stereo, yes living in an inner suburb of Melbourne considered a high risk area although the car is garaged every night in an underground secure park that is like a concrete bunker!!!! only driving the car a few times a week & still paying over $1000 per year for fully comp!!!! I should have bought a bloody TT:zlove: after all!! lol) recognized this forum as a 'club' and therefore would offer a discount to us members!!!

Apparently not ......I had some chick on the phone who just wasn't interested in helping me get to the bottom of this issue and basically told me if I wasn't happy about it then I should go elsewhere if I could get a better price!

Not before ringing them back though and giving them a chance to match the quote! What the!!!!!

So if anyone out there knows for definite if we should get a discount with Shannons I would love to hear from you & find out the correct approach to make sure I'm not treated like an idiot????

And if not then I encourage everyone to look elsewhere for Zed insurance if possible!!!

I will be doing the ring around.....yet again!! lol.....and I'll keep you all posted on what I find!!!

    Cheers!
    Russ.......in a somewhat 'pissed off' mood!

Dont get me started on Shannons.

IMHO they are a bunch of wankers who would rather keep you hanghing on the phone interminably before pissing on you with a crap quote, or a bullshit excuse as to why I am not good enough for their insurance after wasting 30 minutes of my time.

I wouldnt waste a phone call on them.

    Hey Russ.

I found Shannons really good to deal with down here in Hobart (mind you the guy I dealt with was fully restoring a 240Z so he was a bit of a Z man!). He told me to let other people know you're better off going in to the place in person with your car and talking to them face to face as they get heaps of calls everyday. Might be worth a try. Or else ring around and see if there is anyone else that'll offer you cheaper!

    Try unique car insurance.

I pay a little over 1k a year for a 91 TT, 34 years old and rating one.

Can pay by the month, 3, 6 or 12 monthly as well.

With a value of 24k for my car.

    Pretty good I think.

    Regards

    Mark

I am currently with Shannons, even though the guy that write up my quote was understanding and thrilled to have me on their books, I still think driiving the car very little and always locked up, its still too much to pay. They still offer a better deal than any other quote I recieved. But if anyone can get a good deal on full insurance let us know. These days bullshit insurance ask you all types of questions like driving record, how many times etc. Age is the biggest contributor to the quote even at 35 years old, its still too much considereing your never hardly driving your car. As a car enthusiast of the Z why should we pay high premiums if you treat your car like gold

I was paying over $1k a year with shannons, but i always have found them great. I even took my wife's car to them, and they were dearer on her car insurance than where she is now, but offered to lower mine so that the combined was no more than what we were paying atm.

But hey I am currently dealing with them regarding my car getting stolen, so let's see if my opinion changes or not.

I am with Shannons..... my view

never had a problem, they have listed all my mods, and I have agreed value of $20,000. Much better than Just Car insurance who wouldnt do agreed value... I pay $1400 a year.

Shannons is really a car enthusiasts insurance and while I think its silly that we have to convince them that we are car enthusiasts, I understand why they do it. They are quite liberal on modifications and will insure all sorts of vehicles, but they must believe that you really love your car and are not just some punk kid or person on the road who has a shit load of mods and cant find insurance anywhere else... Thats why Shannons promotes and sponsors many car enthusiasts events such as show and shines and concourse days...

Also, our www.aus300zx.com forum is not considered a club. We are not a registered club with a comitee, finances and organised club events etc etc... We are really just a bunch of guys who meet on the forum, help each other and have tech days and cruises. Although the lines seem blurred, without an official comitee and membership fee, we will never be recognised as an official car club.

If you want to join an official club, recognised by Shannons, go to: www.ndsoc.com.au

Some of us melbourne people are members of this club and participate in club events.... it doesnt cost much to become a member..

    Cheers

How does one get a cams license

I looked at the cams website and it was a bit confusing with whats on there. I would like to get a cams license as I intend to participate in some track days etc where they are required. Any pointers on where to start? And are there any recognized cams/shannons Z car clubs in WA?

I am with Shannons with the Zed and a 4WD

Every time I have rung them up I have had a good time and they have been very helpful.

I think your problem is not with Shannons but the "chick" on the phone. Finding someone with a big A for Attitude with a U for Unhelpful on the side is not uncommon in a Call Centre - ring any bank on any day.

If this person is giving Shannons a bad name I am sure they would like to know about it. Get into the habit of keeping a log of times dates and especially the names of people you call. I always do, and that's why I can tell you Doug of Shannons could not have been more helpful when I added the 4WD to my insurance on 16 January.

Ring them back, ask for Doug; ask him about your insurance issues and ask who the chick is, and tell him she needs a career readjustment.

    Cheers:zlove:

To find a CAMS affiliated club.......>>

Just check the list of clubs on the CAMS website. Once you have joined the club then all you do is fill in the licence application which you can also download from the CAMS website, pay your money and you will get your licence in the mail.

I am with Torque Lumleys and pay $600 pa fully comp.

    35yo Rating 1.

In comparison I was previously with Just Cars (AAMI) and the premium was $1300pa with ridiculous excesses.

I called shannons, but they were not interested in insuring me at all. Guess you never have to pay out if you don't have any customers.

    Hows That

Shannons weren't intersted and your 35 years old. Hows that work, you must of got the wrong person on the phone.

i would also give thumbs down. Their market value was almost half

of what AAMI's market value on one of our cars was and they wouldn't insure me because of criminal records and age.

This is what i mean " dick heads"

I am 45 have been rating one for over 10 years. The crapped on on the phone for 35 minutes, then said cause I dont have a lock up garage we wont insure you.

If that is a deal breaker tell people that first and dont piss them around.

    WANKERS

My current insurance is with Budget Direct in Queensland. $550 premium and $950 excess. Its isnt a dailey driver so the excess isnt a problem for me. I increased it to lower the premium more.

spot on barry, .. !!!! as previously posted, i have had three cars

    The garage requirement is interesting

but I think it's valid. I feel that my zed is much safer when locked away in the garage, safe from theives and the elements.

    It's a shame that it's a dealbreaker though.

    'WYKKED' can you verify this????........

the main reason I was pissed with Shannons was that the 'chick' on the phone basically laughed at me when I said I was a member here and asked about discount??? Felt like I was being accused of lying & treated like a complete idiot??? ....maybe I am by the way??? lol:wacko:

but if WYKKED or any other member that was involved in the Gilgandra sponsorship could clear this up it would be much appreciated!!!

but as always the best thing to do is ring around ....get quotes...and take my business elsewhere if I'm not satisfied....which I intend to do asap???

    cheers!
