i got a few quotes from the nistune website. As below:

    Nistune board $220+$25 delivery
Installation- $60 +$60 to send my ecu in.
    License- $200.

My situation is, I have a consult cable, and a socketted ecu ready to go.

So installation required is apparently just four wires on the nistune board soldered to four labelled tabs on the standard board or something.

Just wondering if i can do this part on my own? I figure socketting is the hard part youd want to get done. But this tab, can i do it on my own? I have basic soldering skills.

Just thinking 120bucks for someone to solder four wires is a bit much.

That way itd be 465. Also they burn you a standard eprom. Does that mean its ready to go in the car but un-tuned? So i can drive it until i go get it dyno tuned?

Also can i get the license at a later date? Im just not sure if i know enough at this point to mess with things. I.e. What exactly do you tune yourself, and what gets done by a dyno man? You can adjust timing, injector size, dual pod MAF value.. just thinking with stock injectors and maf and dont want to play with timing, would i just get a dyno tune done and bother getting a license later when i change injectors etc?

Just confused about the capabilities thats all. My understanding is you need to get a dyno guy to tune fuel maps etc. And you can change small things. But then ive read a bit about uploading and downloading maps or something? If someone could give an example of what they do with nistune itd help me understand bettter :)

If the ECU is already socketed then it's a very easy install :) Just 4 wires like you said.

It will come with the base tune that you tell them you have. So you just plug it in and it will work just as with the standard ECU.

Yes you can get the license later on. You can tune anything yourself, but if you don't have a good idea what's going on you can blow things up... If you don't intend on tuning it yourself there is no real need to get the software.

The Nistune board allows you to change just about everything on the standard ECU from fuel and timing maps to VVT cut in and out points, to the temperature and speed that the aux fan comes on. If the ECU controls it you can change it.

You can download a copy of the software for a trial off the Nistune website. Maybe have a play with that before making your decision :)

hmm thanks. Ill have a look at that trial.

I do plan on eventually learning tuning basics myself but atm 1. Not much money, 2. think i still have lots to learn before tuning much myself.

So think ill get the board and install it myself, and sell my current blitz ecu. Fair trade-off, dont lose money. Then buy the license when i have moe money and unis out for the semester so i have time to learn as well.

Do many people mess with fuel maps and stuff or just leave that part for the dyno?

Crispy is right just do as explained by NISTune web sight.I would do all the changes needed to the engine like fit new plugs, fit a high flow air filter ,install EBC boost controller , maybe 2 new CO2 sensors and install a high flow cat back exhaust system .Then take the car to someone like MRC Dyno tune @ Castle Hill [HE IS GOOD ON Z] HE WILL DYNO TUNE YOUR CAR & you will not need a license as he is a NISTune agent. You only need a license if you are going to tune the car yourself . If you decide to do the engine tune yourself " You better know what you are doing " [otherwise it can be a BIG COSTLY MECHANICAL BANG]

I didn't know we didn't need the licence.. so all i need is the board, someone to install it and take it to gavin wood for a dyno? nice. :D

yeah i think thats the best plan. I just need to find an electronic boost controller, then i think ill skip the license for now, get it tuned somewhere else.

Anyone know good spots to get it tuned around sydney?

This castle hill place is all ive heard of. Just wondering if anyone else can do it. Maybe closer by. I.e. Autotech in granville?

    Quick question

whats the licence for ? and do I need it if im not going to tune it myself ?

Is there more to the instilation then just soldering 4 wires or is it more complicated then that on a stock untouched ecu ?

    Cheers

The license is for the tuning software. If you aren't going to do it yourself you don't need it :)

If the ECU is already socketed then it is only 4 extra wires which is easy as. If not then you will have to get it socketed, and then the 4 extra wires :D

Thanks for the helpfull reply, appreciate it :)

Another Quick Q dose it matter if the nistune chip is used in TT ecu for a NA or a NA for a TT ecu/ for ether application ?

    Thanks

Not really. If you tell Matt (the Nistune guy) what you are using it for it will work fine. You can get a TT base tune on your nistune board and stick it in a NA ecu and use it in a TT.

Just tell him the engine and the transmission. You can put different maps on (but you need the software license to do that).

That's what I did when I did the last two GB's.

Matt is the guy who developed the nistune boards and software. Nice bloke.

hey guys, what advantages is there to Nistune? would it make the car faster? how much roughly are we talking for everything to be done including tuning roughly? Im looking at fmic, boost and dual intake, with the nistune would it work better with everything else, im kinda new to the ecu thing Thanks guys
