THERE WILL BE LOTS OF ASSORTED CARS ON THE CALDER THIS WEEKEND.
Wont be able to make it for the drive, as I always take the "Purvis Eureka" to Hanging Rock.

Hi Kingy,

I've found a pretty cool route from Bendigo out through Sutton Grange, over Mt Alexander, finishing in Harcourt where you can head back to Melbourne via the old Calder HWY (more scenic through small towns) or the new divided Calder FWY if your pressed for time (which I had to draw in myself, Google Maps haven't caught up yet for that section of the FWY)

Here are some maps to give you an idea of the road layout, some really nice bends and hills, especially over Mt Alexander

Location B in the detail map is the summit of Mt Alexander which has a really great rock outcropping that shows a spectacular north-east view, you can see for tens of miles!

If you guys want to do this route I can lead the whole way to Harcourt or produce detailed maps for the cruise leader to follow, the route is very easy though while being quite fun out in the quiet country side. I did this route in the GTR last Sunday and had no issues, the roads are in pretty good condition with a couple of bumps here and there but you've got to expect that on country roads

Oh and FYI, the whole route takes between 1 hour and 1.5 hours from Bendigo (A) to Harcourt (C), depending on traffic conditions in Bendigo and how quickly the cruise group progresses along the route, so you can work that into the cruise schedule Add 15-20min on if you want to stop and checkout the view ontop of Mt Alexander (B).

dumb question..

will this cruise be going past seymour? as i'll be in vic for 3 weeks on course and i just might have the weekends off, and would love to get out and meet some of the melb crew..

unfortually i wont have my zed, i wont have any wheels.. but if need be i can catch a train to alocation or some thing?

any help would be muchly appreciated..

aint nothing better then the sight of some zeds lined up..

In terms of the actual Bendigo section, what is your decision regarding going into the CBD? We have a great spot for parking up at the QEO and from there you walk down through Rosalind Park, past some historic buildings & memorials to get to the main drag (Pall Mall) where you can get coffee, ice cream, drinks, etc.

Otherwise we'll work something else out, make a decision and let us know so we can help out

Are you planning on going up Mt Tarrengower in Maldon? Either way I'll meet up with you guys in Maldon and cruise from there.

PS...I think that answers your question Stretch, going this way back via Harcourt won't bring the cruise anywhere near Seymour unfortunately.

 

might just catch a train to bendigo to see all the zeds lined up

 

What about catching the train to Melbourne and getting a ride with one of the Melbourne Zedders...that way you could do the whole cruise ...then just catch the train back again afterwards from Melbourne to home.
