    hey all i have some questions.....opinions appreciated:D
there are zed drifters out there, drag racers and track cars, but this avenue of motorsport is ignored by the import comunity almost altogether....
has anyone ever competed in a burnout comp in there zed?(or turbo import)
i know zweet has over here in wa, we have burnout comps on the same nights as drag racing(wednesday) and its always the v8 boys who enter, and the occasional xr6 turbo or bunky 6 cylinder falcodore.....
now we all know turbo cars run warm, and the zed in particular obvoiusly has this (undeserved) reputation..........
is it unsafe to run a car at high rpm's needed for burnouts for the 2 minutes or so you compete, the car needs to be healthy of course but any other reasons why you wouldnt? is it bad to ingest the tyre smoke back through the engine (unavoidable), and is the reason imports dont seem to compete in these events because we arent real good at it, or do we see ourselves "above" this sort of thing, even in competition....

I guess because we have better things to spend money on rather than burning up $350 tyres at the expense of other peoples enjoyment ;) :)
Leave it for the commo drivers i say lol

    tyres is very true,

but you kill tyres drag racing and track as well, yes?;)

as for leaving it to the commo drivers, some may look at it as a nother way of saying "my cars better than yours, not just faster, but also at this"....lol

soft compound tyres wouldnt last long and thats what you will use at the drags or track, and they are not much cheaper and to some extent dearer than street tyres
I think most of those cars are specifically set up for those official competitions(diff ratio, brake bias, special compound tyres etc),which sort of puts it out of being a street car and makes it a rather expensive exercise

    The question is Rosco

With this point of lateral thinking are you interested in doing such events, even at quit motorplex?, or is this a general question regarding does it dmg the engine or not....

im interested in all avenues of cars and motorsport mickey

and yes i would consider doing it just once or twice for the hell of it.....
my car has been voluntarily pulled of the road for a while cause it isnt running very well.....AGAIN!!! so it needs alot of tlc...
unappealing bits are the hoon factor, paint damage and rear bumper damage if you decide to blow the rear tyres, and the obviously oops i overheated and warped my heads thing.... :bash:
i also dont want peolpe thinking "owww what a !@#$head for even bringing it up ", i for one think of it as just another way to have some fun with the car, provided it doesnt kill the poor thing/
i would only do it on i set of burnout rims, not using my good wheels and i would definately want to do it before the car is resprayed after that not interested at all,to risky....
and i most certainly would not do it in a public carpark at 1 in the morning like most people do when they do this sort of thing,or on a cruise etc etc
im mainly interested in others opinions and if they have or would consider it themselves?

i havnt gone into a competition or anything, but ive done it on a skid pan...and would do it again and go into a comp too...

as long as you have some nice gauges maintaining oil temp, water temp, if u have auto then trans oil temp etc and wateva else is needed then im sweet with it....your not redlining the car the whole way, once the tyres are spinning its just maintaining the throttle at 4gran about there and just keep pumping the throttle up and down....

the bad thing with this is that the vehicle is not going at any speed so obviously no nice airflow is getting to the vehicle...coolers heat soke etc...but as i said before your not red lining it and hitting full boost etc, ur pumping the accelerator to keep the wheels spinning...

obviosuly if you have an NA you would be giving the car alot more stress as you will be giving it more and more to keep the tyres spinning...with the twin turbo just let the turbos do the work :p

pm me for a small vid of it if u want...

obviosuly anything you do these days comes with a risk though, so it really falls on ur head on what to do....the way i see it, its a fkn jap/sports car, its made to have fun with go on a track, skid pan, drag etc have fun with it....anyone who doesnt your weak :D ....

yeah sure pm me the vid why not....lol

my thought exactly, i know i didnt buy my car to look at it and baby it everywhere...but i dont want to thrash it to death either....

on a side note, anyone who reads my last months worth of posts will think i do exactly that, its all my zed broke this and burnouts that...lol:eek: oh well:bash: how to make yourself look like a hoon on a car forum, mention burnouts lol!:banned: :zlove:

why do you care what others think of you? do what pleases yourself and have fun man....its your car and your money.

giving the car a run on a track or on the strip etc doesnt mean you have thrashed your car...if your car is maintained and kept in good condition giving it track time etc does not mean your car has been thrashed....

thrashed means ur engine is running like shit, and you are giving it a hard time doing burnouts etc...heating the bitch up like crazy and its maintenance has just been neglected....overall engine is running like shit...

it isnt often cops pull p platers over for turbo cars... my mate has been driving a S13 turbo for 2 yrs and never been caught...

i own another car that is auto but pulls about 300rwkw (v12 supercharged jaguar) and i have more fun driving my manual N/A... neva been pulled over in my jag either

There's a lot of talk on here about doing/not doing, burnouts.

I'm not a fan of burnout comps, as I just don't see the point(but that's just my choice), and I don't accept that not doing them is a sign of weakness.;)

The real issue here is that Sports Cars are designed to have superior road-holding, grip and high-speed stability, along with more than enough grunt to make you smile every time you tread on the loud pedal.

Sitting almost stationary, and getting an almost total lack of traction, whilst revving the guts out of what most people would consider to be an exotic thoroughbred sporting vehicle, seems to me, to be diametrically opposed to every aspect of the design parameters that make our Zeds such delightful cars to drive and enjoy. :bash:

In short, burnout comps are "Motor Sport" for people who own cars that don't have any sporting pretense whatsoever. Leave it for them.:p:zlove:

When Scotty entered in that burnout comp he really sent his coolant temps through the roof! I think he said that it peaked at around 108-112deg!!!!

All I know it was enough to melt his OEM fan shroud and it made a mess over the front of the engine, fan, etc... NICE! :zlove:
