So we were driving home tonight, when what does the missus spy on the road but a friggen cow running straight for the car!!! She swerved like mad and hard on the brakes but unfortunately a split second later there was an almighty bang as car collided with bovine at 100kph and we copped a big fury side swipe. Pulled over and by torch light could see the drivers side mirror was missing and a streak of blood down the side of the car. Since the cow was still playing chicken with the traffic I took off up the road to herd the damn thing away from the highway while the missus called the cops. Finally caught up with the cow and by torch light couldnt see any external damage though it was limping quite badly and was looking very stunned, but it snapped out of it pretty quick and took off, almost getting collected by another car before I managed to get it away from the road. Cops turned up pretty quick and wanted blood themselves as they had been hunting the damn thing for the last few days after it escaped from the local abattoir and had been playing chicken in the traffic for the last two nights (god knows where it was hiding during the day). If the coppa managed to sight the animal he was going to shoot it, but it managed to dissappear onto railway propery and into tall weeds. I havent been able to see how extensive the damage to the car is yet so will have to wait till daylight. Its going to be interesting seeing how well insurance is going to cover the damage, plus having to claim against an abattoir for damage, but Im figuring they will be paying for full respray along with the new mirror and whatever body damage the car has. We reported the incident at the local police station and they took a statement and took some pictures of the car (it was dark though so dont know how good the pics would be). Im gonna ask the abattoir for the cows ear tag when they get it so I can keep it for a key ring for the zed!
Ask for the head, stuff it and put it on the wall. When I was a kid one of our steers escaped onto the road and was hit by a car. The car was written off and the steer suffered a broken leg and limped off in the bush. It had to be hunted down and shot (a day later)
I used to be a stockman in my former life so I was considering grabbing it around the head or tail and taking it down if I could, but it was too dark and too dangerous on the side of a highway. Damn animal almost killed us so I really wanted to deal with it before it caused any more accidents. Copper had the same idea and did a bit of bush bashing trying to get in range but it got away (I really wanted him to get it so I could confirm who's cow it was but the copper assured me they knew where it was from so we should be all good with insurance)
At the time I had no anger at the animal, only for whoever owned the damn thing and had let it wonder out onto a highway. Cops reakoned that the cow had jumped over three steel fences to escape the abattoir so I felt a little pity for it, but the fact is that its days are numbered and its now trying to take a human with it! (a cows version of murder suicide)
that or replace the Z hamburger with the head lol poor bugga managed to escape death only to be hit by a car as it was trying to flag down a ride to get outta the area! Glad u guys are alright though! could have been a lot worse!

Well no news from the coppers yet, looks like the mad cow lives another day. Checked out the damage in the light of day and found the damage to be minimal (id rather it be none ). The drivers side mirror has seen better days and bore most of the cow damage. So some pics, this one shows some of the damage to the door, just cant see the mirror sized dent This one has a dent I think came from the cows knee or hoof Result of a 100kph mirror slap to a cows arse, no mirror and cows arse blood on my car This mirror has seen better days

Well I cant legally drive the car until I get another mirror, I live in a country town miles from anywhere. So even though the damage is minor I now have no transport. So yes, I do have something to complain about
