Hey Guys, i need to start cleaning up the body on my zed but I want to see if i can rent the gear for the spray. if anyone has gear that they are willing to rent out or let me use in perth let me know would really help, if trust is issue i can organise collateral or something i just need to stick to a budget is all
and that s why the bad guy never wins... should always kill him when he has the chance, dont hesitate
LOL thanks Ross and kakaboy Maybe i should infact come to zedwest and beat up Ross LOL...i should post up a poll about that LOL Abraham
Haha well 7 or replies with 1 valid comment lols yeah I saw that mmatesplace buy I'm not sure I can afford but to prep it I would need more then a day
If you can't afford that then you should be rethinking if you are ready to paint the car :/ Remember you can prep, sand, strip the car completely at home and just hire the booth. Tow the car there and back. Will save money
Definitely a good idea, I guess it comes back down to finding somewhere I can hire the gear to prep I'll still need to give it a base coat over any bare metal to stop rust, and when I say I can't afford it I mean I would rather not pay 800 for booth higher lol but I'm just being a tight ass I guess all I need is cut and bog, orbi sander and a cheap compressor and gun for the bare metal base coat.
DONT GO BACK TO BARE METAL UNLESS YOU HAVE TO. seriously dont do it. Painting is hard but the only reason its hard is becuase you have so many variables. Read Read Read and learn about the whole process different types of paints, spraying technique, types of guns and their advantages/disadvantages. another thing is people always go on about the PREP PREP PREP and this is valid though you also have to think about finishing with a good sanding and polishing. dont just read the internet aswell maybe go out and buy some books. it is really satisfying once you get a good result but you will acumulate alot of tools and yeah if its just a one of its not that cheap but if you plan on doing it again in the future go ahead. HLVP gun (2 as one will be for high build 2k primer which requires larger nozel) hose compressor vapour trap regulator at compressor and one at gun(gun preferable but not 100% needed) Air sander (most sanding is done by hand in the end)-air tools are cool tack rags thiners paint (hardner and base) mixing cups condom suit resperator butchers paper(dont use plastic paper absorbs droplets) 3m polishing products 180mm electric polisher with minimum speed of 1000rpm or below (too high and you burn) cutting woffel pad polishing woffel pad wool pad for final 2500 sand paper 2000 sand paper 1500 sand paper 1000 sand paper 800 sand paper Bog(try not to use much of this, though dont let anyone tell you they never use it cause they are soo good at bodywork :W probably many things i have missed. If you are serious you should message gibbon tammer as he has succesfully dont it in a garage. it takes practice and patience. dont expect it to be perfect either. many will say dont bother but i reckon go ahead and learn something new but remember it is not easy. dont do it because you wanna cut cost do it because you wanna learn.
Hey, Thanks for the detailed list, i did 3 out of 4 years of my autobody spray painting apprenticeship so I know the variables if I can't get or can't afford all the right gear I'll most likely do it in acrylic and makeship my own spray booth. I'm respraying because it's been painted so poorly it's oxidizing everywhere I will only take it to bare metal to smooth out dents. I'll take pics and show you the before and after will look alright should look close to professional.
LOL no one on hear will be able to give you better knowledge then you already have....looking out for piccies
Nah, you can always learn more plus i finished up the apprenticeship was from 15-18 im 24 and barely painted since lol
