I've owned my Zed for nearly 2 years and it has always been a bit gutless when cold (like towing a caravan) but it never bothered me because it was fine when it warmed up. When I bought it the wastegates were'nt even hooked up and the ignition timing was seriously retarded (about 5deg before top dead probably to cope with the boost) Well I hooked up the wastegates (to avoid killing my engine) and advanced the timing to about12-15BTDC. I thought the hesitation was there because the timing was retarded but after adjusting it the problem was still there. Now it's getting worse. The other day I got in my car and when i drove off down the road it started jerking and hesitating and even backfired and popped through the inlet when I put my foot down (not good) On the weekend I started checking things like Air flow Meter, TPS, Crank Angle Sensor, ECU Codes, Fuel Pressure, Coolant temp Sensor And Ive done numerous searches on the forum but have come up with nothing. I replaced the spark plugs on Thurs with NGK Iridiums, My wiring loom is less than a year old, Injector conections etc.. are all fine. Ive done numerous voltage checks at the ecu and everything is within specs. Can anyone help????
You tow a Caravan with your Zed !! Where is the tow hook atached to? Seriously, I'm impressed! I just want to install a tow bar to tow the rubbish to the tip. How is yours connected? cheers, Peter
Don't actually have a tow bar was a figure of speach, although I'm sure I heard somewhere that someone had one:wacko:
Rodd (Datzboy) has a towbar It's quite strange to see him towing his hovercraft behind his Zed down the highway....
A couple of things......>> When the engine is cold it is in a form of safety boost where boost is restricted and fuel and timing maps are different. How are your O2 sensors as your problem sounds like your car is running rich. For that matter have you checked for boost leaks?
Maybe timing belt is out by a tooth ...>> that would be why it was seriously retarded. Also would explain some of the poor performance. Probably has a vacuum/boost leak too.
O2 sensors working The problem is It appears to be running lean, Did the diagnostic test for the O2 sensors and they appear to be working fine. When a car is cold it needs more fuel (like a choke on an old car) so it is supposed to run a little bit richer when cold. in theory it will get better when warmed up(if it's running lean) I'm starting to think it is the Air Flow Meter because ive replaced a few even when the readings appear to be correct. Might swap mine with one that I know is good and then if it fixes it i'll buy a new one
forgot to say in my original post that i've done a boost leak test and she's fine:thumbsup: Don't worry, the thought had crossed my mind that the valve timing may be out but if it was why is it getting worse and worse?? I'm gonna try swapping air flow meters over and see what happens.
