Just wondering is it favourable to near red line it to get your best 0-100 in a N/A ; that is on the rare occasion you would do this 0-100 run? So 2nd @ 50km/hr and ride that throught to 100? Im not getting anywhere near 7 secs, but then again my Z is stock apart from a k&n pod filter. Surely my old 06 N/A 2 lt impreza R is not quicker??!!; it could do it in a tad over 7 secs (factory said 8.5 i think)!!! now thats depressing! On the occasion i did the run on my Z i was timing myself (with a stopwatch in my stick hand!) so my time of 10 secs cant be right??? I can only assume that starting the clock then checking the time is detracting from the actual time..... At least i bloody hope so.. Need a second person. Thing is Its a strong engine averaging 176psi accross the cylinders with the compression test / 100k service i just got done. Any1 else getting times this slow? I just cant believe a Z is this slow! Yea Yea i know its not a TT, but 10 secs? It doesnt feel that slow.
Get a second person and or take it to a drag strip before you start getting depressed about times, you cant time yourself accurately as you said
Yea your 100% right, wasting my time timing my self... won't beat myself up to much, I'll get a mate to time me. Next time im @ Unique I'll get a Dyno done to try and understand exactly what ive got in my Z. Any more N/A's out there that have an idea of there 0-100 times? Im keen to know how quick they can get.
hey man, im interested as this is my original thread, and i had the same Q's as you. basicaly, yeah the Z lags both N/A and TT from a roll off start foot to floor scenario lol(depending on turbo time in tt). But launch the bastard at 3,000+ rpm (4,800rpm my favourite in NA) and mate the car is yours if you shift sweet on good tread. youl snap a 0-100kmh in quick time. the N/A's love it. Go up in 7.5k+ with a chip and the VG30De wont lastlong. Are you interested in personal time, or wanting to go track time? i dont mean to sound like a know all idiot, just been round this particular scenario alot.
Im just keen to know my Z at its best (at least with myself as the driver). Not interested in anything else. Just trying to understand the way you have written you breakdown of how to do the 0-100 ; are you saying to do it as a 'rolling start'? Whats the reason for this? So drop the clutch @ 3000rpm (in the rolling start) and make a crisp change? What are you saying here ; "Go up in 7.5k+ with a chip and the VG30De wont lastlong"? Are you talking about red lining? I never take her that high, bottom of the red line max and thats only when im doin the 0-100. Mine is stock (no chip or tuned ecu). Dont think your being a smart ass at all mate, appreciate the feedback and help. When are you making your gear change? And once more how can you do a 0-100 with a rolling start?.... if thats what your suggesting? Good on you for starting this thread, its a good question
Oh & not sure what you mean by this sentence; "basicaly, yeah the Z lags both N/A and TT from a roll off start foot to floor scenario lol(depending on turbo time in tt)." Forgive me for not understanding... pretty new to Z's
Thx srb, just had a look at your mod list. My Zed is pretty stock, so a spin would be good in that i can see the difference btwn modified and unmodified. In the mean time im trying to get a few local lads together for a no fuss hoot up the Hawkesbury lookout. Are you going to the tech day?
i have here a dec '89 edition of wheels magazine, Z32 preview story and it states nissan's official claim of NA 5 speed, 7.2 0-100, 15.3 quarter. motor mag tested a NA 5 speed a few months later and it did 7.9 0-100, 15.5 quarter. let's not kid ourselves, a NA in stock form is very sluggish and i can't see it doing a 6 second 0-100. a completely stock power curve has no power up top AND keeping in mind the NA gear ratios don't suit 0-100. with the stock curve, you need to shift into third before you hit 100 which = shitty times. luckily there is plenty of room to improve. you can easily improve upon stock, my powerband has moved up a bit after i finished all my mods + tuning and it makes power all the way to the redline. i've also increased the limiter which allows for a better shift point into 3rd as i no longer need to shift up before hitting 100.
