JWT bringing out an adapter to suit. http://www.jimwolftechnology.com/news.asp -- Z32 --------------- Z33 1 : 3.214:1------------1 : 3.794:1 2 : 1.925:1------------2 : 2.324:1 3 : 1.302:1------------3 : 1.624:1 4 : 1.000:1------------4 : 1.271:1 5 : 0.752:1------------5 : 1.000:1 6 : -------------------6 : 0.794:1 good thing about this is you get similar acceleration through the gears of N/A or leader gears and still have the top end of stock ratios. only thing I dont know is how strong they are but cant see them having a prob at 500rwhp
if the adapter plate works with the stock Z33 gearbox, i'm guessing it would open up the option of using Z33 upgrades such as the Z33 HKS sequential box? that's probably the best choice in your case. most 350Z SC / turbo builds in japan use the HKS sequential box instead of the stock 6 speed, possibly an indication of the lack of strength. although for anyone putting down around 250 at the wheels the stock 350Z box could be fine.
Hmmm now that would be interesting, wonder what the overall cost of a conversion to sequential would be.
Any idea on a price??? The only thing I see breaking a z33 box would be hard launches at the drags. I think there are 2 versions off the Z33 box with the later model box being alot stronger.
it is still being tested by JWT . Not sure if the HKS sequential box will work The 350Z & Infiniti G came with a very strong 6-Speed transmission that is starting to show up more and more at the auto recyclers, making for a reasonably priced option for other high-powered Nissans. Unfortunately, it sports an integrated bell housing, making this conversion difficult at best. By scrounging an automatic tranny bell housing from an automatic that was fitted to the same motor you are adapting to, this adaptor ties everything together. Either the 07+ 350Z Concentric Release Bearing or an aftermarket C.R.C. (Tilton) can be used. The no longer used VQ35 bell housing is cut away and the new adaptor replaces the original front sealing cover. This adaptor can mount a 6-Speed to a VG30DE(TT), SR20DE, KA24DE, or VH45DE engine. Adaptors for the VK56 and others will be available soon after the release of this adaptor
Yeah, i was reading that little paragraph before. Do i read it correctly, in that they supply you and adapter ring at which you then attach to the gearbox after having the z33 bell housing machined off. Then its a simple choice of which automatic bell housing to use - to suit your purpose. If its been this simple, why has no one else attempted it. Even at a diy level. As ive seen plenty of build ups that use them the conventional way with the use of an adapter plate and flywheel spacer. It would be interesting to see where the bolts actually thread into. Would it be newly cut threads, or is there something already in the casting?
wouldnt say its simple . machine z33 housing off get an z32 automatic bell housing (cut/machine off? not sure how its attached ) then his adapter ties everything together. custom tailshaft then whats a z33 box cost? has been done before 6 years ago but not like JWT ..SEEMS LIKE JUST AN ADAPTOR http://twinturbo.net/net/viewmsg.aspx?forum=technical&msg_id=910539
Position of gear shift lever? My box is rooted so could be an option... My Navara gearbox is rooted also ... six speed behind the almighty Z24 motor?
The Z33/Z34 gearboxes aren't exactly fragile, but I much prefer the shift action of the Z32 box over the newer six speed.
Read that a long time ago but yeah as I questioned (but didn't elaborate) the position of the gear shift lever isn't ideal & it's a PITA to resolve that, you can do it by modifying the mount etc but it's just more work. What yoke do the six (not sixth) speed boxes run? A guy over here was telling me there are issues in getting yokes to suit? (unless you get the shaft with the box - god that sounds dodgey)
To correct myself here, i mean simple by design. Clearly there is a bit of fiddling to get it done correctly. But the concept seems simple. I guess thats why its now publicaly available. Those blokes do some good work. Cheers.
I was going down this path with a Z33 box when I had mrtt car. Its more than just the box and adapter needed for the job. Z33 box runs a speed sensor on the front wheel I cant remember but there was a few other things needed for the swap aswell. I have a V35 with a 6 speed and they are a fantastic box , its much nicer box than the old 5 speed
