Thought it was the PTU but swapped a series 2 and still driving along it cuts out and won't restart. Only error is Crank Angle Sensor, can the CAS cause the same type of thing as a failed PTU or is there something else we are missing. The car will idle all day but take it for a drive in and it dies?
Yes, a faulty sensor or broken wire to the sensor or a worn/corroded plug can all cause the car to cut out or stall. While the car is idling try wiggling the CAS wiring and see what happens.
Other thing to do is that when it dies and won't restart, squirt the CAS with water from a drink bottle etc, if it restarts after that then faulty CAS.
engine won't run without a working CAS. with out the CAS it is impossible for the ECU to know the position of the engine. thus cant fire the injectors or spark. check the plug, it may have rusted pins etc. try another CAS.
Thanks it's a TT. The car is at Wallard's at the moment the next step I guess is to swap the CAS as suggested, as all the connections were checked and clean.
Clean connectors: doesn't mean tensioned properly. Weight of the wiring loom can pull the CAS plug away from the CAS. The electrical female terminals need to be tensioned so they 'bite' onto the male connectors once together.
Hey Dale, the fact that you are getting a CAS error would indicate it is a good place to start. I did have a spare one but from memory it is already out on loan (do you still have it Mark?), but if you really get stuck I can take the one out of my car as it isn't going far at the moment.
Thanks Pete, Wallards have a spare one, they have put it in and I pick it up tomorrow, hopefully that will do it and she does not end up on another tray going back to Wallards.
I had a similar problem which turned out to be a dirty CAS plug, cleaned and re-tensioned it and now my car runs fine again
