    Hi,

Yet again I have my engine out. What are thoughts on replacing the oil pump when an engine is out?

I've not had any problems with it, and going by the old saying "don't fix what ain't broke" I should leave well enough alone. However, I've got no idea on the number of km's this Z has done (I did the 100k service when I first got it as the odometer was "stuck" at 45,000).

I would be pissed to have the engine back in and then later have an issue with the pump (one of the few parts on the block that hasn't been replaced).

Does the Z pump have a habit of failing or they generally last a while?

There doesn't seem to be a lot of discussion on the forum about oil pump replacements, so I'm guessing it's a part that doesn't fail often.

    Thoughts?

    Cheers

Mate my pump has done well over 140k . There are alot of factory specs on how to check the pump, 7 places i think.

I measured mine up and it was on the minimum factory specs and looked like brand new inside.

So leave it alone or if u are keen print out hte page on teh service manual and measure it all up

Oil pumps rarely fail, 250,000kms on mine...

    Thanks everyone.

As suspected, I'll leave the pump alone and make sure I stay away from anyone named Murphy :)

    Thanks guys.
