Hey guys done my own plenum pull this week but car wont start
i've done quite a few plenum pulls never had a problem TILL NOW

checked and i have got fuel and spark tested each cylinder
checked all connections on my s2 ptu all good from ecu to ptu + coils to ptu
checked the two earths two spots on plenum
checked cas connections which should be ok cos i have fuel
check plenum hoses including pcv's all good

thought it will be flooded so changed spark plugs still no go

i also changed the rocker covers and put new seals in if that could be a problem i dont know

the only thing that i cant work out is that when cranking car it smells like a hairdryer sort of smell ????

    IB ?????

CAS in right way around (if the key is broken off cam shaft CAS can go on in wrong position)?

Fuel supply to correct end of fuel rail (filter -> damper -> rail -> reg -> return)?

i didnt actuall take the cas off so should be in the right spot yeah checked the fuel lines with two other zeds ive got here and its in the right order

    Error codes?

And hairdryer smell? Like burnt electrics smell?

yeah weired smell but not electric burining smell

get no error codes everything tests fine.

What exactly did you change/remove/bypass during the plenum pull?

    Rags left in intake pipes?

deleted the egr installed new hoses but no other deletes

    all rags removed

    Stupid question, but just checking...

Got the injector connectors around the right way? Coils and injectors firing in the right order? 1-2-3-4-5-6?

that was the first thing i thought to but tested all connectors from coil connectors to ptu and back to ecu all in correct locations.

i've just taken the intake pipes off and when i open the throttle up and crank the car i dont have much suction ????

    IB ?????

Was it upper plenum only? Or upper and lower? If upper and lower, make sure you didn't put one of the gaskets on upside down.

    was just upper plenum

i thought i would have more suction through intake if i take air filter off it just has a slight feel of air with my hand against it???

When Billy's car (an NA so higher compression on start up if you have a TT) was started with a bag over the intake pipe at his tech day they was heaps of suction, the bag vanished pretty much instantly in a huge rush of air.

Fortunately it caught on the throttle butterfly!

i've taken the balance pipe off cranked the car and instead of vacuum i have pressure blowing my hand off the balance pipe holes ? thinking something wrong with valves??

anyone had that before pressure in the intake instead of vacuum??

Did the car work before the plenum pull? Have you had the timing belt off?

What's it sound like when it's cranking? Normal?

  15. Brytech

    Brytech Coyote

yeah car worked fine timing belt and cas were not touched at all...

sounds ok when cranking never a pop or bang ?

Not really sure if this is applicable or even on the right track BUT . . .

What dictates when the valves open and close? cams yea?

Its almost like an intake valve(s) are open on the compression stroke and making pressure in the plenum rather than vacuum.

Nothing else was touched when the rocker covers were off?

Could the CAS cause this problem if it was cranking wrong?

I am going for a bit of a drive so i'll drop in and brain storm it out with ya.

    :)

i've taken spark plug out and cranked it has compression and fuel spraying into the cylinder then with the spark plug in the coil pack ive got spark ???

Long shot: Throttle cable and hoses to the idle stuff or the idle control stuff itself?

If you have spark, fuel and compression maybe air is the problem. You said you could feel next to no suction when you took the air filter off, maybe that's because there is nowhere for the air to be sucked in? If the throttle butterflies were not opening and there was a blockage somewhere in all the idle stuff maybe no air is getting in.

Though this does not explain positive pressure when you cranked it with the balance pipe off.

You haven't got a hose or wire caught under the plenum and holding it up off the gasket?

BLT it and see where the air leaks are.

ive pulled plenum off again re-installed boost leak test had no leaks all new hoses.

i even tried it with the throttle wide open but no suction the positive pressure i could be wrong about when the throttle is closed air is being pushed out of balance pipe holes (i have it off to do this test) then when throttle is open it sucks air but very small amount hardly even feel it but its not postive pressure its vacuum when throttle opened ?
