Just been going around to some wreckers searching for a 300zx (uncracked) radiator fan. Just wondering if a fan off another car (eg VL, R31, Ford, Holden...) would fit the size and bolt pattern of the zx?Anyone had any experiences replacing theirs?
Or alternatively know someone/a wrecker that might have one.Cheers

    It has been done before......>>

A fann from a commodore from memory has the same pattern and is almost the same size. Try a search as it has been discussed before, including part numbers and the testimony of members who have tried it.

    Be careful, though

Last year, I replaced my very cracked fan with one from an R33 GTR. It was brand new and I got it from Cresta in Brisbane. It looked for all the world to be the same as the Zed fan, except that the blades were a little wider and had a slightly wider blade tip. I thought this would provide better air draft. When placed flat on it's back on a table, the centre hub of the fan was just slightly raised off the table surface, meaning that the blades would be angled slightly back towards the motor. This contrasted with the Zed fan which sits flat on a table, both the blades and the centre hub. I fitted it and there was clearance all round from belts, pulleys, etc, so I gave it a go.As it turned out, under load (I did wind the speedo off the gauge on a couple of occassions)the blades must flex back towards the motor, because the tips of the blades showed signs of rubbing and one had a piece taken out of it! I presume that it had come into contact with either a pulley or a belt. Not good.I've since bought an OEM one from Courtesy Nissan and have a spare R33 fan, if anyone's interested.
