thanks cliff and k-zed .. i suppose what i was really after was in two

    parts ..
    1. given that the magnet attracts metal rubbish floating in the system, should we be doing some regular check of the plug to ensure that all is reasonably healthy in the system .. and not get the shock of finding something nasty, like blackice has, only during a regular service ..and/or ..

    2. is 20,000km an acceptable measure between services of the transmission ..???:unsure::unsure::unsure:

The auto does not have a drain plug Baz (unfortunately). The pan has to come off to facilitate fluid and filter replacement.

Although I believe that a drain plug could be arranged if you had the wares ;).

I do my gbox every 50K or sooner depending how hard I drive it :)

my be a bit excessive? but smeh.

I have been doing a lot of reading on TT.net and a few other Z places and it would seem syncro's are weak in pre 93 gear box's and having a short throw shifter is bound to fark it up a lot sooner than normal especially if your doing track work and giving your box a hard time, like me.

With all the posts related to g-box issues it was becoming clear that every one with an issue had done the short throw shifter some time before, maybe we should ask myth busters to bust the myth of the short throw shifter killing the syncros.

but I think it was the cause. Look at Franz, he does heaps of track work and what not stock throw shifter, no issues, huge Km's? lol.
Me, 2 track days lots of drag days hard thrashing all with short throw, and it craps out.

Short throw shifter was done basically as soon as I got the car, before I knew much hehe. Oh well.

I am going to return mine to stock, and I guess fix the box and hopefully it will last me a while longer.

DinoZ put a drain plug into his auto sump.

But 20K kms should be ok for auto service intervals.

Hmmm???? my auto has a drain plug..:)

Still have to take the pan off to change the filter but thats after most of the trans fluid has drained. Is that a TT/NA thing? or a year/model thing?

Someone has probably done the mod Caz

I think US cars may have had a drain plug but ours don't.
It's probably to stop people doing an oil change without changing the filter.

You actually dont have to change the filter in an auto zed

The filter is made of a fine steel screen. It doesnt wear out but can clog.

When you pull it out you have to give it a bloody good clean and it comes back like new.

The filter is something stupid like $70 to replace. Good thing it isnt neccesary
