Ive been having this argument with my mates for a while now and am curious to see what you guys think. Who would win if they where to race or go for the best lap time. Mark Skaife in his V8 super car or John Penlington in his UAS 300zx slot car (granted mark is probably a better driver but im really talking about the car here)
Over a decent race distance the V8 with driver adjustable roll centers will be much more predictable than the 300ZX. Better brakes. Better driver. Better tyres. Lighter car.
As much as i would like to see the zed win i voted for the v8 supercar as it seems logical that a car with that amount of development would win
The only thing limiting the V8 is the power output... But I'd still put my money on it. The V8 is way more advanced than the Zed (as well as it's budget).
The V8 would win John's best time at Wakefield - 1:08.9170 Andrew Jones Konica V8 - 1:00.6438 In short - Skaife would kick the arse out of the Z, which is not suprising given it's a purpose built race car. Would even be a bigger margin at a track like Eastern Creek.
This would have to be one of the dumbest questions ever:wacko:I know that the Zed is a great car and JP's in even better but let not get delusions of grandeur
Love that Zed but its not really a fair comparo! Professional Driver (who get paid shit loads to drive like a madman) like Mark and a budget that the V8 teams have dwarfes the amount John has spent or even has available to him. John does great in the Zed but its not a fair one that race. MattB
V8 would probably win, just a wee bit more money, research, testing and experience is on the side of a professional racing team.
i would say the V8 would win... BUT...i would love the zed to win so i can piss off my older bro :LOL:
Supercar wins The Supercars run at over 400kw so it outpowers the Z anyway, and they weigh in at a light 1300Kgs. (that's from memory, I could be a bit off) Six speed gearbox, yada yada yada.
V8 supercar with ease Eastern Creek lap times Mark Scaife - 1.31.07 JP - 1.46 Porsche cup GT3 record - 1.36.78
it would not even be close the supercar would smash the 300... the 300 was never made as a track car more an old mans cruiser. the supercar is a race machine with only one thing in mind, going fast around a race track!!!!! sorry boys/girls, but lets be serious guys 300's are fast but they are no race car.
A better comparison Would be against Steve Millens Zed, then you would have two pupose built racecars against each other.
Z like body, V8 motor He has it sorted out a bit more now, hes at the pointy end, that thing is fast at the island. didnt get his lap time, but i think they said on fox that hes faster than v8 super car.
now that sounds much more logical If steve millen was driving an old mans cruiser . Then mark is driving a family sedan .
zed Lets not forget that in the early 90's where mods where limited, a GTR skyline flogged the V8's. After that these v8 big heads voted against having Jap imports in Bathurst because the turbos where unfair (to my understanding cause i was only 8 at the time). Now that the family sedan commodores and fords have been moded to the extent that the only standard thing on them is the shell and even most of that is carbon fibre. Lets imagine that we went the same extent with a zed cause we all know that a zed still beats a "standard" SS commodore. I personally am very disappointed that they took the imports out of Bathurst, and would like to se it one day "a very experienced driver such as mark skaife in a zed, skyline or supra worked off its tits kick one of those v8's. But that's just me, I cant help hating them v8 freaks, I think its because they put us down all the time with out giving us a chance.:zlove:
