    Hey guys,

I'm in the process of trying to trade my zed in for a locally made car (the zed's just too much trouble for me, I need something abit newer) and a valuer today said that the vin# was in the wrong spot or something like that...

    Where should everything be?

The compliance plate is behind the drivers side headlight, buildate plate is near the passenger side headlight.. where should everything else be??

    Cheers,
    Dave

    the VIN and Chassis Numbers

are both on the firewall behind the plenum, on the drivers side...You'll see them if you get what I mean.
Good Luck, sorry to hear you are trading her.

    hmmm...

are zeds supposed to have the build dates and compliance plates and the piece of metal just behind the headlights??

    Yeah....

all imports will have a compliance plate with a VIN#, Zeds have a couple of plates on the chassis behind the headlights in plain site...However this VIN# is the one it gets when brought into australia and complied by a particular dealer. And usually what rego stickers go by eg: for a REVs Check and the Chassis# which should always stay the same and be consistant between both the plate and the firewall. Build Date...don't think that's in the engine bay. And that little piece of metal should have the chassis number on it. As well as a whole bunch of other numbers which don't mean diddily to you and me(but to someone I'm sure they do). So, as posted before
they are one on top of each other.

    cheers

    Thanks mate,

So basically what your saying is the information on the plates on the firewall should match the info on the compliance plate behind the headlights??

    Sorry for sounding so stupid!

    Ummm.....not really...

the information on the firewall...(imprinted into the firewall). Chassis Numbers match up but the VIN# on the firewall is different. Once they get complied it gets given (somehow) an Australian VIN# which tells the parts suppliers that it's an import, otherwise when they search local Nissan Dealers for you particular VIN#(from the Firewall) they won't be able to match it to anything...Hence your car doesn't exist. However when this number(from the Compliance plate) is run it should bring up that it is an import.
