when i did my pull. i put it around the plenum, choose 2 one each side and wrap it around (we had really long slingers so we used all 6 of the spokes)

if you go through the tech section you can see pics of the engine pull and how other people get it off.

I also used the plenum, but it was only an engine. Not the box including. Best to try and get a strap and attach to the engine mounts to support the main weight. Along with some on the plenum to aid in tilt.

when i pulled mine mine was on the plenum and i had the gearbox still attached..

my car was a write off.. so we cut the front end of with an angle grinder..

and pulled the engine and gearbox out at the same time all off the plenum and i didnt have any problems at all...
but if you have a problem with it.. i dont want to be blamed....

See if you can find a couple of scrap seat-belts. The belt is the best sling you will ever find(and cheap, if you get it from a wreck).

I have pulled/replaced quite a few engines with gearbox attached. Using straps/belts through the plenum arms without a problem. The biggest issue is to get the lifting straps right so you can get sufficient tilt on engine/gearbox to slip into relatively small engine bay. Dont forget to lower the cross member. I always attach the engine mounts on the to the engine, but leave them loose so they can be easily aligned when lifting the cross member back into position. Unless you have a hoist, I dont, I also find it helps to use a trolley jack under the gearbox mounting to prevent the gearbox extension hitting the floor, it also allows the engine/gearbox to run smoothly in before raising it to normal height.
    Hope this helps

I made an adaptor that bolted onto the lower plenum ( remove plenum first, lots of room) but it's somewhere in Brisbane( loaned it to someone a couple of years ago), where are you
