Hey guys, im looking at doing a trans oil change when i do my next engine oil change, im unsure what fluid i should use?? could anyone shed some light? Cheers as usual
Got mine from ebay cost a little under 90 for three bottles (950 ml each bottle) delivered from memory, put some redline product in a diff and man it turns over much easier by hand than it did with the old fluid, the old fluid stunk to high heaven
So the MT90 Gear oil is still good for the auto trans?? it just seems weird buying "Gear oil" for an automatic transmition lol. but if its the right stuff i will just have to buy it
Definately NOT..... In the auto transmission use Redline HiTempATF. Nissan state 8.3litres for the TT box.
^^^NO... thats good for a manual trans, dont put it in your auto In my auto i run Castrol transmaxZ its synthetic (blue/green) not mineral based (red) so if you have a mineral based fluid in there already you will need to flush the trans thoroughly before switching to synthetic fluid, and vice versa, if you want to stay with a mineral based fluid any good DexronIII will suffice, A synthetic fluid will last longer between fluid changes and is probably worth a good few degrees drop in your trans temp too= less wear and a healthier gearbox. IMHO i'd go the transmaxZ or an equivalent, its more expensive being sythetic ~$60-80 a bottle and i dont think supercrap and repco stock it only the not as cheapo places like autobarn and auto1  i get my transmaxZ from autobarn IIRC~$70 hope this helps -scotty
I use Penrite Sin Comp Auto fluid : http://www.penriteoil.com.au/products/automatic-transmission-oils/sin_comp_auto_33 Makes the box shift a little sharper, is only $35 for 4L. Only downfall is you need to do more frequent oil changes, around 25,000klm or so.
MT-90 is for manual trans only. Autos use ATF 8.3L or so. Also to note for Z32 manual transmissions, do not use GL-5 type gear fluid. It will damage the brass syncros. Owners Manual calls for GL-4.
Thanks guys, its probably a good thing i wanted to verify lol! last thing i wanted was to have put gear oil in the trans and all of a sudden in drive i wouldnt move anywhere! also, what about transmition filters?? i dont quite understand where they are or how to replace/ clean them? any info would be good guys, cheers once again for verifying lol!
Undo the plug on the trans pan and let drain. Remove all pan bolts and drop the pan. The filter is held in place with a few bolts and is simple as unbolting and refitting the new as seen/obvious. Probably best to fit new pan gasket as well. Here is a good general tech guide on fluid changes: http://www.ttzd.com/tech/fluidchangetech.html
