I'm trading in the beast and was wondering what price I should be lookin at?

    I've got an Aus-Delivered, 1990, White, Auto 300zx with 125,000kms, In 90% condition..

I got offered $12k last week.. But i was hoping to get a little more..

Here's what I traded mine in for...

I got $11.5k for mine 18 months ago. I had a 91 Aus spec which LOOKED like it was in reasonable condition, however they did test drive it first and found out it was running on 5cyl and had no power steering. I think I had a few more kms on the clock than yours too, I can't recall exactly, but it had done a lot of kms. To be honest I couldn't have given a rat's what price I got, I just wanted some other sucker to take it so i didn't even bother haggling. (Oh and the trade in was for a standard $20k car).

    Hope this helps. :)

    Louise.

    Thats unbeleivable

My car is in perfect condition, australian delivered and i've got a 12k offer, a $6k offer and a nil offer (they didn't want to take the car at all!!)

    This is pissing me off..

I work in insurance and the trade in prices i get on our computer systems is between 11-14.. arrggghhh

12k not bad for an auto ...

... you could maybe get more if you wait a bit. BTW, MrZee is asking 10k for his NA auto.

If it was a manual, circa 14 -15k would be achievable.

A 'nil' offer is NOT an offer ;)

I know I have made the mistake before, but

people need to realise that there is a 'Reply to this thread' and a 'Reply to this post' link. If you reply to a thread it puts it as a reply to the original post, instead of the post it may be replying to. 'Reply to this thread' is up the top, 'Reply to this post' is down the bottom of the page. If ppl don't do this, it gets confusing very quickly as noone knows who you're actually replying to :)

    No accurate priceing but

I might be wrong with this next bit.

With the 15 yr import rule about to make yr1989 and 90 Z available for import? And then about few months to bring them over and say $9000 in Japan and $2500 for rego/transport/legals/scrutanising, means more are now availible on the market. Which will make them even cheaper.

Just a thought I could be wrong. But I hope what you get what you want for it. :)

    thanks

So in other words, get rid of it now!

If i can't get a decent trade in price, i'll just spend $7-8k on it, and make it schmik instead :D

    Thanks for the input guys

    Blipman Beer hooves totally work

I think $12k is on the money

for a non turbo Z in about average condition. It it's in good condition, well maintained, and this is obvious, it should be worth more.

With the 15 year old rule I think prices of some Z's will drop, however good ones will always hold their value. A lot of people are bringing in poor quality Z's which I really wouldn't touch, so while these will be the cheapies, quality cars will still be in demand and still be worth paying more for.

    what car???

what car are you looking at buying...the more you spend you will get a better trade in...

  13. red32

    red32 You talkin' to me?

The type of replacement car, and price to be paid for it

are crucial to the trade-in valuation. Just after the new Nissan Maxima was released I was offered $20,000 for my Zed. But this was on a new car, just released so heavily promoted, and still with $25,000 left to pay. And, you have to remember, to any non-specialist dealer, the Zed is just another 15 year old car.

Hope you get a good deal (or one you're happy with)

    Cheers

    I managed to get

$15K for my manual 89 TT Z, it did have a worn engine too which was part of that trade in price, it did have quite a lot of money spent on it though.

Now this 15 year rule will have sent the value of 89 Z's spiraling down, if the 15 year rule isn't stopped soon, then the 90 models are the next for the chopping block :(

I know I'd rather pay less for a car than more.

If you're buying a car as an investment, then Jap imports are definitely not the cars you should be looking at, It's inevitable that they will depreciate (apart from the rare exception) I have an 89 and I don't care if it's worth $2000, it's still my Zed and I love it. I payed $20k for it 4 years ago, but I certainly would've rathered pay $9k, could've bought 2 at that price. I don't see a problem with the 15 year rule, and it's ppl like you that support the beaurocrats in their quest to stop imports altogether in support of our underpowered, illequipped, pieces of crap we call Ford and Holden. Don't blame the 15 year rule for your bad judgement. If you think that ur some elitist for owning a Zed or Supra then I'm afraid you're wrong. The only real thing stopping anyone buying a Jap import is the apparent lack of parts, reliability and lack of knowledge of the car in question.... simple 'piece of mind'. We're not talking about a rare $250k sports car here.... most are cheaper than the bottom line Commodore.

I can't be bothered...... You really are a moron.

    umm ok

Just saying how its a shame the depreciation of the car, perhaps your fine, but some want to eventually sell their cars, Im not talking about the ban of imports at all, but as they get cheaper, there will be more and more driven around by uncaring teenagers, fresh from getting their licenses with a hard on to race, perhaps that will result in the decline of imports even more so than banning the 15 year rule, its got nothing to do with elitest attitude.

Its fine I dont expect you to agree with me, but personally I dont see why insults are needed, Im certainly not going to stoop to that level :rolleyes:

Hi Zac - I don't think the 15 year rule per se will cause values to drop

I bought my 1989 Z in June 2003 before the change to the rule and I paid $7100 landed. I don't see any 300ZX at that price anymore - they are usually $2K to $5K more. I have to agree with Kalus - we drive Zeds because we love 'em - they aren't and never will be an investment. Far from it!

    And no I don't think you're a moron.:)

    Cheers
