My oil pressure gauge has never really worked since i got my zx (89 Auto NA J-Spec)

so i brought some new gauges and when i start the car it sits around 4-5 bar.

After a little bit of driving when i stop the car at say a red light or intersection it goes way down to 1, and when i accelerate it sometimes hesitates a little bit.

Which causes the pressure goes to about 0.9 or .8 bar which sets the alarm off on the gauge which is really annoying

Also sets the alarm off when doing u turns on full lock.

Is this normal or is there a problem that i should be looking at?

Did you just hook up an extra guage or did you install a new pressure sensor?. If just a new guage then it is just dreading the crap signal from a foiked OEM sender which are well known to fail. To get a treu reading you need to tap in a new sender feeding an accurate guage. As an aside if you have no or little oil pressure then you will soon know from the screecing sound as your engine seizes

the old gauge is disconnected and the new gauge came with a brand new sender and that is now inplace of the old one

Can you give us a bit more info on the guage, and sender. Also, check the basics, such as is there enough oil in the sump?

i cant give you that much detail at the moment untill i get home from work, but i can tell you that the gauge is made by Prosport and the sender came with it. i will be able to check the sump when i get home and if its not raining.

the guage should be pretty accurate. Not sure on the sensor. If that is so your oil pressure is quite low. A couple of other questions, noting it is not likely to stop raining soon.
What Grade of oil are you running?
How many km does the motor have in it?

Normal oil pressures according to the factory service manual -

at normal operating temperature, no load on the engine, approximate discharge pressures -

    Idling, more than 0.78 bar
    3,000 RPM, 3.53 ~ 4.51 bar

Can you reset the guage alarm a bit lower?

That's interesting, I'd be looking into that.
