I'm installing bleed-off valves in my Z, and plan to bring the boost up from the stock 9psi. What is a safe level of boost with stock ECU? Was thinkin 11 or 12psi. Any thoughts, experiences? Also, its a '95 moel and apparently the ECU is a little different. 16 bit ecu compared to 8 bit ecu's on earlier models - not sure if that matters, but thought i'd mention it!
This has been discussed a fair bit quite recently do a search, you'll find a bunch of stuff I reckon. But the general consesus was up to about 12ish was fine with stock ECU as Zs gerneally run pretty rich.
12.5 psi is top safe limit. depending on your compression level. stock turbo motors are at 8:1 roughly, a non turbo block is at 10.5:1 or near enough so they should only be let go to 10psi. cheers - scott
Any Exhaust or Intercooler upgrades?? my stock ECU was handling 16psi no worries with the appropriate Intercooler, Exhaust, Filter upgrades (see my profile). Don't know if this helps...
I've ran my 94 TT Zed (same stock 16 bit ECU as yours) at 15.5 psi..>> with not a hint of detination, I've also been able to use standard ULP at 11.5 psi without detination. All the above was done with the timing at 17 deg and yes it was in Summer. PLEASE NOTE: That I will not be held responsible if you run your Zed under the above conditions and your engine shits itself. Remember that all Zeds are not the same. Cheers Andrew
Very good advice Andrew........>> Differences between the state of tune and condition of engine from one car to the next mean that just because car A works fine on 16psi, that car B will do the same.
