I was just reading about the Winton track day and on the page it states "Fuel will be available, AVGAS, ULP, OPTIMAX and JFP Racing Unleaded at selected times through the day." Has anyone ran AVGAS or JFP, or BP Race Fule in thier unmodified zed? Does it screw with the computer, or cause pinging ect?
I'd hope it didnt cause pinging These gases have much higher octane designed to prevent pinging. You will find on an untuned car that already runs rich will probably get no benefit unless you really increase the base timing. The only other problem is that ones containing lead will quickly foul up your 02 sensors.
I wouldn't use Avgas - as far as I know it is leaded ... I have used Martini Racing unleaded 102 octane on a track day as I was running an ECU from Japan with unknown maps and I wanted some protection from pinging. Like Zisluv says, I could have got more power by running advanced timing. My Z is not wild and is only pushing 12lb boost at the moment. This sort of juice is usually pretty expensive ... like around $4 per litre or more.
