Im worried my fan is about to fly apart cause of cracks. has anyone ever had that happen before?

Has anyone ever tried to epoxy it up to fix it???

Theres nothing wrong with the fan itself its just all cracked.

Im about to re-do my clutch fan with silicon fluid but im scared the centrifigul force of a properly working clutch fan is going to make it try and fly away. lol

    Anyone got an opinion?

Heres some photos, its pretty much cracked like that all the way around.

I'd replace it. That's some bad cracking.

So you don't think there is anyway to fix it at all?.

Or is it that its just not worth the risk?

No, I haven't heard of one being fixed. And if it does let go you will be lucky if only the fan shroud suffers.

Ah damn, thats not what I wanted to hear at all.. lol

Oh well looks like new fan here we come.

they are so expensive for what they are though. I guess the damage that it would cause if it was to let go would be a lot more.

Unless someone's got some like super super extra miracle glue or something. lol

    Thanks guys

Mate....if you are reluctant to purchase a new fan due to the cost......you definitely have the wrong car.....you should be saying that your thankful that its JUST the fan you are replacing

Oh don't get me wrong, im very grateful i only have to replace the fan.

Its just frustrating having everything need to be done at once.

I just did 120k service, bought a new radiator, tyres and engineering just to get her back on the road.

A plenum pull with everything freshened up (injector connectors and fuel hoses) is planned a few weeks away, it just seems like im never ending replacing things though.

    lol
It reminds me of riding around on my two stroke motorbike when i was a kid, everytime a go for a drive i gotta come back and fix something minor.

Apart from all that the car runs very well. No problems at all except the Aux fan seemed to die the other day so it gets a bit hot with the Air Con on under load, Aux fan is actually seized for some reason, it worked the other day when i tested it, next day tested it again, BAM dead it was. couldn't even turn it with my hands. it was literally stuck.

Its all good though, once i get it all done she will be good for the next few years.

I just did a mod on the gktech fan to make it fit.
My initial impression is that a bit more air is blowing over the engine bay

the following bodge was done while the fan and fan shroud was still attached to the car.

I used a soldering iron to melt a hole at the base of each fan blade and then threaded a stainless steel wire through and twisted it until tight. This will prevent the blades from flying off. The cracks have not become worse.

I intend to replace it and the fan clutch.

I am testing the gktech fan at the moment.

I like that idea! Very innovative. I was thinking of doing something the similiar (parramatta rope threaded around it LOL) until i got a new one.

But I have found a member here willing to send me an uncracked one for relatively cheap.

Thanks heaps for posting those photos.

I fear that what you have done with the wire will cause a lot more damage if a blade breaks loose as instead of just flying off and doing damage it will be swung around at what ever revs you are doing and cause a hell of a lot of damage like a plastic whipper snipper destroying anything within reach.

Kaka, That was the quickest bodge l could do on the weekend, after the member who offered me a fan, went quiet. I needed to drive somewhere and was terrified the fan would disintegrate.

    Twin Terror,
The fan blades on mine weren't cracked.
The circle at the centre which forms the base for the fan blades is the problem.
My wire is preventing that part from separating from the metal bracket.
If a single fan blade had a crack through it and is going to snap off, it can still do that.
My fan just had the cracks through the circle part.

I have to say that THAT fix on that fan is one of the funniest things i have EVER witnessed and should take center stage in "There, I Fixed It".
    Heres some examples!!!!!
    http://www.ebaumsworld.com/pictures/view/80712667/
Ranks up there with the wheel brace gaffa taped to the steering shaft in place of the missing steering wheel!!!!!!!!!!!
    OMFG... I think I just wee'd myself!!!!!!!!!

Dude, you get kudos from me just for imagination alone!!!!!!!!
