    Hey guys..

I'm lost confused and just a little upset about my zed situation.
As you all know, I stack my beauty a few weeks ago, and so before I start reaching for money out of no where, I want to know what for.

I guess I have 3 options, Fix the blue beast and try to get her back on the road, put my engine in a new body and part out "the scraps" lol, or part it out and call it quits, maybe start again in a new z, maybe give up zedding all together. Regardless, i can't seem to choose and everyone around me is giving me the do "insert option" or I want nothing to do with it option which just leaves me feeling like I don't have a choice.

So what would you say is the best option? whats an average amount of $$$ you get from parting it out? whats an average cost for this kinda task? be it repair or replace. would i ever be able to resell? when you were in my situation what did you do and how did it work out?

People tell me to listen to my head, others tell me to listen to my heart, and then some tell me not to listen to either and that I have no idea what I am talking about. All I get from it is a headache and an upset tummy..

Advise people, let me have it!

if you dont have money to spend, part it out and run away from zedding until more affluent times come along.

    That's the sensible option

Its not a case of money. Money is not the issue in any way shape or form, despite making it sound that way in original post.

Right now the issue is making the decision. And I want to make the right one, one I am not going to regret. But i don't know what that is. I am looking for influence from knowledgeable people when it comes to zed's.

Transfering everything to another car is a massive job.
Parting it out should see you get 4000+ quite easily. Zed parts sell very well around here:)
There are a few cheap z's around at the moment, maybe put your driveline into one of them.
Selling a z with that damage repaired maybe hard and would certainly cost more than it is worth to repair.
I would say parting it out would be the best option all things considered.

bareing in mind, parting it out won't include motor. I will be keeping my engine.

Still good money in that beautiful interior, gearbox conversion, wheels, etc.

If you are keeping the engine why not do NA to TT conversion, maybe something to consider. Good NA z's can be had for excellent prices.

You've asked for advice so here is mine. But first I think it all depends on how much you like owning your Zed. You say that money is not an issue, but that doesn't mean that you want to throw money at something that you get nothing back from. I've owned a Z32 for 10 years now. For the most part it's been good, there have been times when everything seemed bad but they're fewer than the good times. The thing is that when it's good, it's really good. It's awesomely good. Targas off, boosting up Greenmount hill on the way to the twisties around Kalamunda dam.

For me it's not about showing off, I don't care who sees me, most times I wish there was no one around at all. It's just me, the smell of new leather, exhaust rumbling, watching the revs rise, feeling that push in the back, feeling good.

Some of the guys have said run, but I wouldn't agree with that. If you're over it, give it a wave and say good bye, but don't diminish any good times that you've had. The saddest thing about this forum is that it seems that so many people are stuck with dogs of cars that they are never going to get right, so they will never understand just how good it can be.

I reckon that the Zed is an overly complex beast, and a little bit ahead of its time. But when every thing falls into place, it's the best fun that you can have.

    Best of luck,
    Evan.

PS - get those bits into another Zed, we'd all regret it if you didn't.

You still seem quite keen on staying in a zed so lets forget the parting out option for the time being.

Looking at the photos I'd say repairing your zed will be a costly affair, your front left corner is mangled really bad. The radiator support bar is seriously twisted just like your chassis rails will be, its going to take a lot of time on a chassis jig (& $$$) straightening that all out.
In reality your best bet (if repairing) is to buy a front cut & get the whole front section welded in as a replacement, but then you have to wonder if your car will ever be the same & if they can straighten everything out.

Next option is to buy another, either a clean slate or something you can transfer parts into ie. a 'fixer upper'.
Now you mention your keeping your engine, whats the thinking behind that? Has it been rebuilt & modified or is it just that you feel its in great condition? If just good nick then maybe just consider letting it go, if a serious rebuild then by all means hang onto it.

Now should you decide to just buy another why dont you consider getting an NA for the time being?
Hang with me here, in your previous post about the prang you mention difficulties getting insurance so why not grab an NA & drive that around for a while before jumping back into a TT while you build your rating up?
An Aus-spec NA is significantly cheaper to insure than a TT & a lot easier & you could always store your TT engine then transplant it down the track.

best of luck with whatever you decide to do though.

    cheers, Tim

its true.. i am not ready to be zedless. A 300 was and still is my realistic dream car.

And my Z wasn't for picling up or showing off, however it did serve these purposes occasionally, just cause it could :D

Thanks for to the guys who actually gave me a decent answer apart from part it out and run away, no offence to those who said that. I guess while indeed I myself had said it, its like the fat chick who calls herself fat, its only ok when she says it, if someone else does, it doesn't go down well.

I have come to a conclusion, its the one I originally wanted, and have backed all along. And althought it goes against what has already been said, I am going to do an engine swap.

belive he's just saying why the engine swap. Has yours been rebuilt with forged bits, etc or are you talking more like swapping a TT engine into a cheap NA?

engine swap just seems unneccesary if yours is just a standard one & your talking about dropping it into another TT.

    cheers, Tim

yes it is standard. But I hadn't bought a lemon. It's engine that didn't have regular "moments". rather pointless I know, But I know its quirks, noises etc, I can't see why not. It takes 2 maybe 3k off of getting a z on the road again. why sell it, to risk buying a dud? Plus there is a small bit of sentimental value to it.

First of all let me say that I am very sorry to hear about your situation... every zed owners nightmare. :(

I won't tell you what to do, but I'll tell you what I'd do in the same situation...

Obviously you don't sound like you want to give up on zed ownership, which rules out the 'running away' option. I can relate, and if my zed died today I'd find it hard to go past getting another one. At least in my experience the good times always outweigh the horrible, frustrating, expensive times :D and I just love these cars more and more the longer I own one :)

I would keep anything I wanted to keep (wheels, exhaust system, brand new 100k service items, other mods etc), then part out whats left to get SOME cash back, and put it towards starting over with a new zed, seeing as though you have said money isn't a real issue. Repairing your current zed is going to be VERY costly and not worth the effort imo. Similarly I wouldn't bother trying to swap everything into a new zed unless: a) you can do all the work yourself, and b)there was a really good reason (completely rebuilt engine or a very strong sentimental attachment) Otherwise, the low price of zeds these days means its just more effort than its worth. I would be using all my zed knowledge that I have acquired to seek out my perfect zed :)

Good luck with whatever you decide mate ;)

ok here goes... as some1 who has crashed his zed twice cuaseing pretty much the same damage as you but smashed the front drivers side 1st then the 2nd time around smashed the front passenger side, if you are able to i would just get it fixed, mine coasted about 5k all up if i add both repairs together

most people would say thats like half the value of the car, but the value is wat it meens to me, :) and now that my cars all fixed im so happy i did it, + was a good time to make some cosmetic changes aswell, :)

i really do know how you feel coz iv been in ur shoes twice, and considered all the things you are

goodluck and wat ever option you go, just make sure your happy with it
