    Hi,
Wondering why someone would block the hoses running into the exhaust infront of the cats on a tt? Presume they are for the wastegate?

    Cheers

Yep, AIV's. Stupid emissions stuff that they deleted on the S2 zeds.

what exactly did the AIV do. It makes sense then that whoever built the motor blocked them off with bolts to keep it looking stock?

AIV pulled fresh air from the fender region into the exhaust to "reduce" the toxicity of the exhuast fumes...
once you replace your exhaust then those pipes are all gone... or if your worried about looking stock, remove it at the point where it joins themain exhaust and put a bung in it

ok, makes sense. They are stock front pipes thats why its still plumed in, and they've just blocked it to reduce the amount of air the exhaust needs to flow i presume.

    Thanks for the input.

Not entirely correct, but sort of

When the car is warming up the ECU enriches the tune a bit and injects air in the exhaust before the cats. This gets nice and hot and heats the cats up quicker. Apparently gets the cats working better quicker.
