Just took me 3 1/2 hours to travel 40klms.
This was due to the fact that the Heater Core decided to let go way out in the sticks.:(
Was able to drive about 5 klms at a time, before the Temp Gauge decided to scream blue murder, then sit on the side of the road until the temp was down about 3/4's before attempting to get a bit further, until I could find a Servo, so that I could do a By-pass on the heater.
    Well, wasn't that fun, NOT.:(
Took another hour to remove & replace the hoses so that I could continue on home.
Ahh!!! but thats not the end of the saga.
Replacement heater hose wasn't thick enough, so it kinked & the whole drama continued for another 30klms, until I finally pulled into the driveway. Ahh!! Home At Last.
But was this the end of the story, NO.
Blew the bottom Radiator Hose as I drove up the driveway into the garage.
Steam everywhere, including inside the car. Makes it bloody hard to see the Roo's & Emu's that have suicidal tendencies & leap out in front of you, but thankfully I avoided them all, for now.
Well, now its a job & a half to replace the Heater Core, Pull the Radiator & find surplus cash to repair the damage.
Ahhh!!!... The Joys of Zed Ownership.:LOL:
If I'd had enough wood & a match, at least I'd have been warm.:LOL::LOL:
    Who's up for a Tech Day workout.:LOL::LOL::LOL:
Just glad it ran like clockwork for the Zed Fest at Coonabarabran.

    Cheers
    Kerry

Sorry to hear this sad tale...

But I think there is a lesson for us all. Carry a hose to bypass heater core at all times.

    What did you buy?

    I'll be getting some soon.

    Re: What did you buy?

    Hi Andrew,
Nothing at the moment, except for some heater hose from the service station, about 300mm of it. Only cost $4 so was no major expence yet.
Heater Core will cost about $170 I think it is from Phillip (the suburb)in the ACT & then the battle begins to replace it at home without removing the dash.
Don't know about the Radiator just yet, I'm pulling it out this morning, so here's hoping.

...a jumper from Lowes costs only $10...;) This is my method...

When i bought my car the heater core was fine but I decided to bypass it... pedantic yes... but one less think to break.

Now also going to do another plenum pull even though it was done by someone else only 2year'ish ago because I have noticed the method that was used to bypass the under-plenum hoses has still left several existing/old hoses to/from turbos in place ) ... again pedantic I know :wacko::wacko:

Thanks for the advise Mark >>

But down where I live, you'd need Arctic Alpine Clothing :p :LOL::LOL:. Not just a jumper from Best & Less or Lowes, for $10.
God!!.. I've even seen you Queensland lot wearing jumpers on a nice fine sunny day, with a temp of 20 degrees.
    Go Figure.:p:LOL::LOL::wacko:

Kerry, sorry to read about your bad day...>>

but there is no need to carry a spare heater bypass hose. If you have the tools it is very possible to install a by-pass using either of the existing hoses (obviously use the hose that has not split!). Just need a long screw driver, pair of needle nose pliers, some replacement water/coolant and lots of patience (and a torch if its dark).

    Cheers

PS: Wait a few minutes for the engine temp to drop before attempting the bypass otherwise burnt fingers.

    Hi John>>

I was begining to think that you were in hibernation.:p:LOL:
Someone else suggested having a bypass hose. But hey!!.. its come this far in its life, so I should get another 17 years out of a replacement heater core.:LOL: without carrying a spare.
Hope you are both well & will try to catch up soon.
    Cheers mate

    Kerry..>>

I've been busy not finishing lots of projects. Start something, get the shits with it and then start something else because its easier to do rather than finishing the previous project. Anyway, its reckoning time and I have to finish all those things I started. Shitloads to do around the house before it snows. I'm sorry I missed Coona but frankly I never had a chance of getting there.

Have also neglected the zeds by also spending every second weekend at Moruya Heads (my second home) while the weather was good......tough life eh! Interestingly, the more I neglect the zeds the less they broke down...go figure?

Getting synthetic oil on my hands soon by helping out with a 200k service (replacing all main oil seals etc). Other zed stuff is I also need to:

    a) strip down a dash to be Sikaflexd and repair the A/C system (I think the control cable wire has come loose).
    b) Oh yeah, I have a VG30DETT engine on a stand and will dismantle and rebuild over winter (have a heater, fridge and TV in the garage). Will also polish plenum and bypass the usual stuff.....but not too many mods or too much bling (Wizard is very safe).
    c) Solder type 2 PTU's into a couple of zeds (this is easy)
    d) Replace an A/C compresser and regas (this is a bitch to do)
    e) Install a couple of NTK O2 sensors (just a PITA)

    That's about it for now.

    Cheers
