Weird behaviour under brakes

When braking softly no problem. Car slows in a straight line.

Push the pedal a bit harder and the steering wheel wants to crank to the left about a 16th of a turn. Initially I'd hold on tight and this would make the car want to pull to the right. Now I know what to expect I let the wheel move by itself and she still brakes quite straight.

Inside of both front tires is badly worn, worse on the left side.

I have the wheels off, Brake pads etc. appear fine, no obvious problems with suspension bushings.

Any suggestions as to the cause?

How do I check the suspension bushes properly?

    Thanks.

i think you need a 4 wheel alignment at minimum ,best bet is to go and spend $20 on a pedders suspension check and go from there :)

    Wheel Alignment

I forgot to mention that I have had a wheel alignment after I noticed the uneven tire wear.

There is definitely something loose or able to move on the front end as there is a real sudden step change as the brake pressure is increased.

    Thanks for the help

Are your front tension rod bushes OK? They often flog out and could cause the problem you have.

yeah my bushes where flogged out

when i bought the car, my mechaninc got nylon bushes for 75 bucks, stopped the uneven tire wear

Found the problem to be a loose bolt in the bottom suspension bush.

Allowing the bottom of the hub to move outward under hard breaking, causing toe out, and changing directions.

    Thanks for the help.
