hey guys, got home last night and turned the lights out in the shed when i heard dripping, had a quick look underneith and there is a puddle of coolant. so i went to bed and dreampt of healier cars. so i had a look this morning its a fair size leak will take a 2 litre bottle of water through it evey 10 mins or so, cant see where it it comeing from but it looks like its comeing from underneith the waterpump area and the hardpipes was just wondering what is the most common fault in there ? any other iput would be helpfull thanks
Either water pump has failed or bypass hoses are leaking. If a 100k service has NOT been done recently, now is a good time to do it. A system pressure test may confirm the culprit. Do not drive the car! Remove rad and fan to access the area for closer visual inspection. Follow 100k service tech for full details.
unfortuantly kzed im not skilled enough to do a 100k service was plaining on takeing it to nial in bris in a months time but dont look like that is going to happen
could hold a tech day but i dont think there is many people close enough to me who would be willing to come help out. realy dont want to be a burden to anyone
yeah, ill probably be attempting the 100k kit myself if it turns out to be the wp. im not too stressted on most of it just scary allighning the timing belt
How old is your engine and timing belt? If it is only 120K engine and 20K old timing belt then you don't need to replace it. Maybe it is just the water pump or maybe just the hose. I think you should order a 100k service kit (with pulleys, tensioner, belt, water pump and wp gaskets) then call a mobile mechanic if you would rather someone else did the work. If it turns out to be water pump/wp gasket related then the mobile mechanic should be able to fix it. If it turns out to be the hard pipes have a hole, then send the mobile mechanic away while you source replacements. (You can also think about doing the timing belt while the car is in pieces waiting for other parts.) If you watched the mobile mechanic dismantle the front of the engine area, you might be more inclined to put it back together after you know the exact problem and get all the needed parts. Also you have the timing belt and pulleys for next time you car is pulled apart.
engine has 125 thou on it and no record of a timining belt ever being done. has been a top priority since i got the car i have the full 100k kit here with pullys belts and seals was just waiting for my tafe course so i could take it to a z mech in bris but now this has happend looks like i will be doing it mysself
