I am finally about to put my 300zx through blueslip on thursday fingers crossed.

long story short went to fill the windscreen washer bottle with water and as soon as i put a small amount in the engine started struggling and a black hose leading to the intake plenum started moving around.
The bottle also has a vacuum? obvisoulsy something has been hooked up wrong when i bought it, any ideas?

    Stop now!!!!

You have your washer bottle connected to the engine, do not start it!!!

The hose that goes to the windscreen washer nozzles on the bonnet, you have this connected to the balance tube. Trace the hose back, it will have a yellow stripe around it where it meets the inner gaurd, this hose goes to the washer nozzles from the washer bottle. I assume you have the other correct hose connected to the nozzles instead.

Also, before you try to start the engine, remove all the spark plugs and turn the engine over by hand to get the water out.

just add methanol and you have a water/meth setup..
DO NOT START YOUR CAR AGAIN UNTIL YOU CONNECT IT UP RIGHT. people destroy engines from doing this

If your water line is connected to the plenum the engine will suck in water. If it sucks in enough then hydrolock and a destroyed engine is the result.

You need to fix this urgently. The washer line should have a yellow ring of tape around it. If you can't find it or are unsure, post up a pic of the back of the engine.

Thanks mate, ill have to wait till its light again. I was filling it as it was running thats how i noticed there was something wrong so there is no more water left to cause hydrolock. thanks for that will try and trace the hoses.
    Thanks again

you are the luckiest guy alive if you have not damaged your motor. this has caused the death of a few motors on this forum.

why didnt nissan use clear hose !!!!

Just went out with a lamp and traced the hose which WAS connected to the balance tube... disconnected it, started it up, started and ran fine and no more vacuum in the washer bottle, and i could hear sucking at the balance tube. i took some photos because im not quite sure what hooks up to the balance tube and dont want to just connect something without checking. there is only one hose that is not connected.

Mate would probably pay to fix it tonight then go for a 1/2 hour drive to get the water/moisture out of the motor as letting it sit over night might let rust start in the motor but by just running it for 1/2 an hour will prevent it.

I would take it for a drive but it is inregistered, going for blueslip on thursday, will let it run for a while though. just need to figure out what goes on the balance tube now.

    to check

While you have that hose off the motor just try your windscreen washers and see if water comes out of it, Then you know for sure :)
