I removed my EGR and need to block the hole in the Exhaust Manifold. I did buy a 300 Degree Brand EGR removal kit which comes with a proper bung to screw in but it will not screw in at all.. Thread wrong ?

A 5c coin is exactly the same size as the hole and the original bung can be screwed down on top of it to block the hole.. Whats the odds of that 5c coin melting ? Is it just a stupid idea ? I dont have a welder or anything similar to block up the original bung....

Id hate for the coin to melt and end up inside the turbo housing

i don't think a 5 c coin would melt, they're pretty tough little buggers. Though don't take that to heart, i'm just speculating :p

No problem Stu, coins are the number one thing used to bung up the hole.

lol. it does come across as bit mac gyver-ish , but if it works then go for it. there;s no way the 5c coin will melt in my opinion.

For mine all i did was cut the pipe, pinch it at the end and braze it. i do have a proper bung somewhere but mine is real tight in there and it will most likely rip the threads out ont eh way out so i just cut the pipe

unless your exhaust gets to 960 celcius/1760 f , ,the coin wont melt Stu :)

    You're a bit cheap Stu.

A $2 coin is only fractionally larger but much thicker. Surely it must do a better job than a measly 5c piece.

wouldnt 2 5c's be just as good?

    and $1.90 cheaper...........:p

    and its a higher melting point, 1083.0 ーC :D :D :D

5c = winter driving, 2c = summer driving :bash: :bash:
    (tech section for this ,surely)

I did what rollin_on_18_strong did to his except used the mig which most backyard workshops have these days. I am sure you would know someone with one Stu?

Just cut the EGR pipe about 40mm from the head of the nut and squash it in a vice then mig over the top, too easy! Mine has been in situ for over 18 months :zlove:

Ah of course. its steel pipe. I shoulda used the mig too!

Well thats quite possible seeing a stock zed motor will produce EGT's of higher than 900 celcius on WOT. If the melting point of a 5c coin is 960 celcius I wouldn't be using it.

yeah thats true, but the manifold wont let it get that hot. i dont think the exhaust manifolds would ever get up over 400c

Just MIG up the EGR bung. Cut the pipe off . Unscrew it out the Manifold pull the cut pipe out and weld up the hole. Shouldnt take too long.

2nded, not worth putting it in and being unsure about it stu. i might be a lil far for you but if ur willing come over any weekend and we could weld it up for ya. alternativly any welder in the area, exhaust place etc should not really charge you to weld it up...
