Just had my zed a few months and this warning light comes on when the engine gest a bit warm. It's sort of a cylinder type shape with sort of heat waves coming off it. It's in the shop getting fixed but wanted to see if anyone could shed some light on it for me. I have the manual but the bloody thing is Jap so can't read it, my z is blowing a fair bit of smoke and running a bit rough. Checked the online manuals but can't find the warning light that has been coming up. Any thoughts - cheers
Cat overheat warning light there are sensors in the catalytic convertors which trigger an overheat light, which is the one you're seeing. High cat temps are due to unburnt fuel getting into the cars and burning in there.... most likely cause is some sort of miss (due to lack of spark), it may even be running rough or have a bit of vibration? Check plugs (maybe replace them), coil packs, clean and check all connectors including PTU connectors. Ben
Thanks Cheers for that mate - I'm pretty sure its the coil. Nice to speak to someone who knows what they're talking about.
Another thing.... If it flickers it's probbably a short. The cable itself is problematic. Whenever mine comes on I slap the centre console around a bit or slam the lid closed and it instantly goes out. First thing I'd check would be the wires under the console. (braided) and the connectionts to the cats... sometimes even these wires are chopped off at the cat yet the light still comes on when the wires short
