Most aked question of any Zeder. Where can i get cheap insurance for my Zed? I have a TT non-targa 2 seater. After much discusion with RAC my current insurer we came to the conclusion that my car could not be covered, because its a non-tagra:wacko: who would have thought??? so i appeal to the zed comunity. who insurers you and how much do they charge you?
    thanx in advance guys

    HBF...

    About $600 for $20K.

Do a search too, people are *always* talking about this.

    Cheers,
    Evan.

Is that full comprehensive for 12 months???

Do you have an excess also??? is it large or small in comparison to age.
I have RAC and its that amount for 6 months???
looks like I may have to change.

    Full comprehensive...

    $20K for 12 months. I've got a 60%? no claim bonus, a perfect driving record and I'm over 27.

I also do health insurance and contents with them but I'm not sure if that makes any difference.

    Cheers,
    Evan.

    Re: HBF lowest for me

I am 19 and have insurance under my parents who have a maximum no claim bonus. Insured as a listed driver and the premium is $927 a year for around 12k payout.

We didn't tell them it was a recently imported car but apparently you don't have to tell them because all 300ZX's are imports at some time or other. Anyone heard similiar?

    Not sure about that...

the bit where you don't tell them stuff. They all have a clause that says that if there is something that you should tell them and don't then your policy may be void.

It's false security, you pay the premiums and think that you're insured but if there's something that you haven't told them you're stuffed! Read the section about 'disclosure' in the policy. You may as well not have any as pay for a policy that will not pay out if you ever need it.

    Cheers,
    Evan.

Be very, very careful re disclosure...

Zeds sold in Australia through Nissan dealers 1990-1996 have significant differences to "Japanese" models, side-intrusion bars and seat-belt mounting points being two of the more obvious. The variations were to make the cars more closely compliant to ADRs, and insurance companies claim they have the right not to insure "non-compliant" vehicles.

Re: Be very, very careful re disclosure...

Hmm imported zeds have to go through similiar compliance work through. But I can see the insurance company is gonna disagree with me anyway. I guess When I confirm my insurance quote when my car gets registered i will say.. btw its an import - gee theres subtle 'by the way' way to say that is there

just curious - did HBF ask you if It was an import or not in your initial quote, or did you voluntarily disclose this info?

    I made a point...

to tell them that it was an import with twin turbos. I'm not trying to make any judgement here but it's completely false security to have a policy that they can get out of on a technicality.

They send you the policy with the rules, it's a contract. If you don't tell them something they have the upper hand. I'd rather pay them 1400 per year than 1000 per year and then get told that they won't pay because they didn't know that it was an import.

    IMHO,
    Evan.

    Re: I made a point...

Yeh for sure. I haven't actually taken out any policy with them yet, it has just been my recent quote from them. Ill tell them when I confirm my insurance with them. Thanks for the info Evan.

Very good point Red32 has made re disclosure

K-Zed suggested this long time ago, get the words "Grey Import - Twin Turbo - not a locally delivered vehicle " put onto the policy document and request a hard copy of it for your own records...

    Added protection...

    Hi there Refuzed.

I actually work for an insurance company, and from the sytems we use at work it looks very easy for someone who is not familiar with cars to call up and insure an import ZX as a locally deliverer 300ZX with out being aware of the diiference.

Wouldnt like to be making a claim if that were the case though, I would imagine them declining the claim.

AS for not telling the insurance company things, read the documents they send you there is something called a duty of disclosure, basically this states that anything that a reasonable person would be expected to know needs to be informed, otherwise the policy can be void.

Not telling that the car is an import model is a pretty big thing not to disclose as some insurers wont touch grey imports at all, thus zero coverage for you.

    Good luck

    Mark
