Well how can i start this:unsure: today was a good day for some and a shit day for others...me in particular:(

The day started off very well with no rain in sight until we got to Morwell for the hill climb.

Firstly we started of having 2 practice runs each with all going well except that the track was wet and slippery. Then after the practice runs it was time to get serious.

    The 1st run i had went not so bad. I got 55 seconds as it was my 1st time on the track, the second, well......not so good as i lost control of my zed and went straight into the tyres with the result being this;

so there goes my day, i had to pull the front gaurd of the tyre just so i could get the car home, well instead i went straight to my mates panel shop and dropped the zed off there to get fixed.

After we discussed what needs to be done besides getting the front repaired im also going to respray the whole car and go brazilian while i am at it, i was always planning to get the car resprayed as it needs one and well it is a bit premature but i guess ill be doing it now.
So for the next 2-3 months ill be busy helping my mate out to get the car looking new, but the good thing is its going to cost me not much:thumbsup:

I also bought another car tonight from my mate at the panel shop so i can get to and from my 2 jobs im working at the moment for $400. Its a yellow VH commodore POS with 6 months reg!!

Ouch Maxy that looks painful!! :(

So does this mean Jedi has even more ammo the next time you guys try to convince him to go out on the track?

Good luck getting it back on the road again. ..and back out on the track.

WRITEUP AND PICS OF THE DAY

Well, what can I say? I'd like to say that it was a fantastic sunny day, with engines blearing, BBQ's cooking and people just enjoying some good ol fashioned motorsport... hell, my girlfriend even came to this event because I promised her it would be heaps of fun....

Instead, Melbourne weather could not have been anymore stereotypical (is that spelling correct?? sorry cant type, my hands are still frozen). It pissed down rain all day, was freezing cold with the max temp being 12 degree's.... and needless to say the tight and tiny morwell hillclimb track was soaked which made traction a figment of someones imagination.... and unfortuneatly a nasty kiss with the tyre wall for max..:( (chin up ol son)..

Anyway, the racers (WYKKED, Blipman, RedzedMikey, Zxtt-1 and Maxs'Z) got at the track early for some scrutineering... When they arrived, the gates were still shut.... that was probably sign number one that this day would be "interesting"... anyway, they finally got in, did all the pre-race junk and started some practice... and then the heavens opened...

The spectators (Blondie, red32 and myself) arrived a little later to enjoy the downpour..

Some of the gang with smiles on their faces... when it was still relatively dry...

RedZedMikey putting on his lucky "lepricon" shoes...

    zxtt-1...

    WYKKED...

Blipman (obviously not in zed but rather his race toy)

    RedZedMikey....

Just some cars in the pits... (the yellow M3 on the right was an absolute killer)

And so it began... by this time the rain was really coming down... the photo's dont really show it but it was soaked... the good thing about bringing your girlfriend is that she can stand behind you and hold the umbrella while you take photo's..:) Wykked coming down...

One of many many spins of the day....

This green vette was awesome... probably not suited to the track though...

and then the incident that put a dampner on the day (more so than the cold and rain).... Max lost traction coming around the bend and went nose first into one of those behemoth tyres in the background...

Max pre-accident (showing off for the camera as always)

    Damn...

oh the pain.... hopefully not too expensive maxy boy..:(
    [IMG]

    zxtt-1 about to go out...

    and redzedmikey coming back....

Cars waiting to assault the rain....

and some of our boys waiting as well...

RedZedMikey and WYKKED at the start line ready for their run...

In the end, as fate would have it, it started to clear just as we were packing up... and there was even sunshine for a brief period on the way home.... but it didnt last for long... I dont have the track times, but out of the "zed" crew WYKKED and blipman were the fastest on the day with 47. something seconds... the fastest on the day was 43. something seconds, achieved by a red pulsar GTI-r...

The day was finished off with a nice social dinner at Hog's Breath restaurant which allowed us all to defrost, have some brewski's and surprise surprise, talk about zeds..:)

    Until next time...

Like i have said many times, my zed will never see a race track..:)

If ever i was to start doing track work I would buy a cheapy dedicated track car... one that is easier to work on in an emergency and also has cheap parts..:)

    Cheers

    Good writeup Mark...

bad luck about Max, but he got away with minor damage to the car and no damamge to him except for his wallet, and supplied us with more ammo for poking fun at him of course.:LOL::LOL:

Commonwhore Max. I had one years ago and it was an absolute pig on fuel. Beats walking though;)

Glad your Z wasn't any worse and it will be really nice when it's done.

Bugger, forgot to mention that Hyper101 was there as well...

Stuart is the really tall guy appearing in some of the pics...

This is what happens when you write at 11:30pm... you remember all the old faces but sometimes forget the new..:embarrassed::embarrassed:

    Cheers

  9. RedZedMikey

RedZedMikey RZM should now be DZM

Max - looks like you're going to beat me ...

to having a Z with only 1 shade of red! Pity that the motivation to do it came in this manner though. Hope you meant it when you said you wouldn't let this stop you from involving youself in motorsport in the future ...

Beautiful weather on Saturday, not bad today - but when you want the Sun God to smile she says naaaah. Still, it was good fun out there and there was always a queue to get back out for the next run.

I had an embarrassing spin on my 2nd practice lap, and the event organiser had a short chat with me :embarrassed::embarrassed::embarrassed: but then none of the spectators had arrived to witness it at that point, so it didn't really happen, did it????

Ben and Wykked were constantly the fastest of our party of cars, and ususally were about 2 seconds faster than me. When they ran 51's, I ran 53's, and after 4 runs Pete's best was 49.16. I came back after the 5th run and was told I went 49.05, but my woo-hoos were short lived after learning Pete and Ben had both just done 47's!

All good experience though, and I look forward to the next opportunity for a bit of circuit fun. Currently I doubt that I will be putting on the leprechaun boots at Phillip Island next month or Sandown early October, but am pencilling in the twilight sprints at Calder on Halloween as a definite ... anything to stop hordes of neighbourhood kids from trick-or-treating me!

  10. Blipman

    Blipman Beer hooves totally work

    Very difficult conditions

an interesting experience driving in such wet conditions, lap times were purely dictated by grip, and weight... power meant nothing. Aside from launching from the start to get boost up I didn't go full throttle once for the entire lap, the lighter the car/better the tyres the faster the times, with the only all wheel drive there owning every one :) Purely with the stopage of rain for most people's last run (but still a very wet track) everyone did about 2-3 seconds a lap faster on a ~50sec/lap circuit.

Thanks for the write up and pics Mark, I feel for Max, I know what it's like :(

    Ben

  11. BigCol

    BigCol That's what she said...

    That's real bad luck Max....

but the important thing as others have said is that you are ok, and that the car isn't too badly damaged.

I personally think that your car rebelled against you after the good clean we gave it at Petes place, and it decided it would also like to be one colour!

And don't forget to look on the positive side...cleaning the passenger headlight will now be MUCH easier :LOL::LOL:

Anyone want to take bets on how long it's gonna take Max to put bonnet pins in the new bonnet? My bet is 2.5+ hours!

If there's anything I can do, let me know...

heheheh thats what i said Col...

us NA non-racers got to stick together! Only 'cos I've been where Max is (but worse) almost 4 years ago...

I feel really guilty after Sunday......>>

I pestered Mark into brining his girlfriend Judith along to a zed event and it turned into one of the coldest, wettest most miserable days we have had. I talked Max and Jack into getting their cars out on the track and enjoying the fun of motorsport and Max winds up in a tyre wall after only two practice laps and one timed lap. Thank god the dinner at Hogs Breath was excelent so the day finished on a bit of a high. The official times are still not out yet (no suprise, it is the MSCA) so we will still keep guessing until then. Jen only took a few pictures on the day and Doug sent me a few more so here are a couple that might show just how wet it was.

I'd been slowly starting a collection of spare parts for the zed "just in case" because motorsport is a dangerous hobby and even the best come unstuck from time to time. Last Friday I picked up my new spare bonnet from Graham's, and by Sunday afternoon it had already found a new home. Here are a few of the parts Max will be collecting from my garage to get himself back on the road (and the track????) a little bit sooner.

    red32 You talkin' to me?

    Times!

Had to have a little laugh at Max's expense when the course announcer put the time for Max's last (disasterous) run over the PA "7minutes, 31seconds!"
