great alpine way i am yet to take part on a cruise due to work but i travel the great alpine way regulary and wonder if anyone would be interested in doing that ,up the hume and then across thru milawa and oxley nice road thru here then on to bright and harrietville stop for lunch maybe bright and then head up the real twistys to Mt Hotham stay the night there ,i can get some accomdation there and have dinner at the pub then off to omeo the next day which is nice road then down to bairnsdale which has some good winding stuff and the highway back to melb.about 1000ks but a good drive. would have to plan it as it can snow regulary across the top but it is a spectacular drive and i think better than the GOR.I have not taken the z up there yet but i do this trip monthly in a b spec subaru and it is has some pretty spectacular scenary along the way food for thought ......
this may b a little far for most ppl but how about mt. dandy --> black spur or something... just throwing out ideas/..
black spur is nice but lots of police out that way. And mount dandy is all a fixed speed limit nowadays
Time to revive this old thread. Renzed and I haven't forgotten about the cruise, as we said, we just planned to make it after winter. So I would like to give everyone at least 1 month notice. Renzed and I have also had some other ideas. Seeing as though the cruise is going to be around 9 hours or so, and everyone would like to meet everyone else. We are thinking of stopping over in Mt. Franklin for the night and camping there, just want to see how many people would be up for that. Myself for a fact would love the opportunity to meet everyone else. It will be towards the end of August, thinking might make it 30th & 31st. Just want to see what everyone else thinks, or we could make it 1st weekend of September. I want to be able to give everyone else as much time as they need to get prepared/time off work if needed. Let me know what you all think.

Cruise sounds good August .... will have to check ( close to charity bash dates ) camp out ..... In August @ Mt Franklin....... Ya kidding .... I hope ! But me and the brass monkey will tag along regardless..... on second thoughts, it will be just the brass monkey
You would pefer it in first week of September then Kingy? I guess there are a few who don't really feel like camping it out the night, or even hotel? I just thought it would be good for us all to catch up rather than hitting the roads for a constant 9 hours.
So this camping it out idea doesn't go down with anyone? We don't have to stick to Camping sites, it could be hotels etc (even streets). Everyone would just rather do a 9 hour cruise?

I'm away for "The 2008 Great Escape Sponsored by Kitome Penrith to The Barossa Valley via The Great Ocean Road 8 to 18 September 2008" A charity bash I do every year..... & seeing we've been busy nagging for it to come this far south, I aint missin out ! ( that first week in September I'll be flatout preping the car for the run ..... even tho I started prep work 2 weeks ago ! ) my bash car..... pic taken near Birdsville Back on topic..... As far as a "camp out" goes, way too cold up in that region that time of the year to curl up in a swag, if you can find a small country pub with reasonable accomadation then I'm sure most ppl would be up for an overnight run without too many dramas.... might even add to the lure of the run being a more social event rather than a long haul....... drive for 4 hours, relaxing evening with fellow ZX nuts and good feed, a bed & brekky, and few more hours on the road sounds the trick..... to me atleast ! There's plenty of good country pubs up that way & most have rooms available for very reasonable prices, shouldnt be too hard to find a publican thats interested in hosting a few ZX owners for a night. Good food, open fire, warm friendly pub & a bunch of car nuts..... = a top night ( without the frostbite ) Kingy P/S If ya having dramas with finding a pub, give me a yell, our charity bashes take us to all sorts of places and often the most supprising pubs can be found at them, remember the places we call at often have to cater for 50+ odd vehicles and none have ever let us down.
How many people would be interested in coming to this? I am trying to work out some prices for Accomadation so far its looking around $140 per night for some good places. I was thinking maybe to stay in a Bendigo hotel for the night.
