ey guys ui just wanted to say thank you from both me and sandeep for coming to our first event...it was a great day 13 competitors and plenty of spectators from our club, nissan silvia and just friends...but i gota say the day went well everyone went out and did thier thing...initially people were worried about the size of the skidpan but when we all got the hang of it, it was who could go the quickest and the most sideways:D...2 fastest people was Doug and Ben both with low 30sec passes...we had a few hickups during the day as one of chads friends waterpump(?) pully overheated and melted making him unable to drive after one run:eek: ...but all in all it was a great day...so i want to say thank you to the guys who came and participated and thanks to the guys who came up and joined in our day:D...cheers

    Ryan

Yeah thanks for coming everyone. Was a good session and good to put names to faces. For the record we did just manage to scrape together enough money to pay the bill. So thanks to everyone who chipped in :)

Just looking at the amount of intrest the original thread had both Ryan and myself had a chat with Ben about an event at DECA in Shepparton... we'll probably look into it some more and if you enjoyed this event, you're gonna love DECA. Probably 4 times bigger in skidpan size (plus no walls surrounding it :) ) and also you get the backtracks as well (mini tracks).

Post up pics (not pics of the red xr6 though...) I think it was a power steering pump pulley... completely spun the shaft inside the pulley... only ford would make pulleys out of plastic... and then it only had one belt so the waterpump wasn't gonna work as they were all turned by one belt (gotta love the zeds 3 belts :zlove: :zlove: )

And if anyone has any pics of me going sideways please post them up and I'll be eternally grateful. I think watching Tsuchiya's "Drift Bible" actually helped me abit. Practised keeping the car sideways with throttle inputs and finally managed to do the 360 around the first cone... damn I hope someone got a pic of that...

P.s. Chad didn't blow his tyres but he was damn close...

and I'll try and get some results out on monday.

The truth about me and my car...

Madu's wrangler... you're probably thinking no, a jeep on a skidpan???

But yes he did!!! Blew a power-steering hose first run so did the rest with pure unassisted muscle... (and yes he did smoke up the tyres, he put it in 2wd low range... and they're 22inch rims btw...)

Me being the cool person I am...

And again around the damned final cone... couldn't quite master it unlike the first cone... handbrake turned around the cone but couldn't keep it sliding... I will conquer it one day...

    Ben Having fun... :)

Ben having too much fun and almost stacking it... lucky he had 8 piston brakes!!!

    Ben having more fun...

That's it for now. I've got more pics but I really can't be bothered coming up with awesomely funny captions for them.

    Enjoy :)

    carzone in the corner crying!

looks like you's had a good day, did yous have like a mini course set out and who can do it in the quickest time sort of thing, common with skidpan days?

Also looks like the track was wet, did it rain at all? If so, lucky buggers!

SOOOoooooo whens the next one at sheppo? Not too soon i hope, i got dramas i need to take care of on the z :(

    Take care,

    Pete

yer the skidpan was wet luckily...really slippery:D....myself and sandeep are planning on doin a shepperton skidpan day in the near future, seeing that there is heaps of interest in that...we had 1 particluar course we did for most the day where we all got timed...my PB was a 32sec pass, where Ben(BLIPMAN) got 30sec pass...but i gota say it was absolutely awesome seeing some of the guys out there and being out there too...it was a real learning experience and having the chance to do that kind of stuff in a controlled environment was great...i cant wait to see some of the pics the other guys took...:D

    red32 You talkin' to me?

My moment in the sun, in spite of the rain... Ben 30.3, Moi 30.1. But once the pad dried-out, I was nowhere... couldn't get the back to break away, understeering like a pig.

    Sideways Sandeep...

Sylvia/180/onevia/syl80... well its a Nissan. This guy had almost as much fun as Madu
    [IMG]

But it all ended in tears...

    Madu and the "Jiggy Jeep"...

...won the prized for "Closest to the wall without touching"
but that ended in tears too, with a ruptured power-steering line

    This is Ahzi (spelling)

then Ryan... that's 10 points off already, Ryan.

This Commodore driver was heard to comment on feeling the odd one out...

Simon shows how to go through the start gate... already sideways
    [IMG]

    Or is this Ryan?

Slight understeer was the order of the day...

    Ben is looking quite concerned...

    And with good reason...

This is how you drive "like a girl"

    ...and so's this...

It was clean when I started...

    The crew...

Big thanks to Sandeep and Ryan for organising, 'twas a fun day 'til the pan dried out.

By the way, those who attended, the venue owners want some pics of our group for promotional purposes (acknowledging and promoting Aus300ZX in the process) All numberplates have been digitally removed, but if you have any objection to your car appearing in this sort of material, then send me a PM and I won't send the images to Drag Tag. No PM means to me that you have no fundamental objection.

    BigCol That's what she said...

Nice pics Doug, and great representation of the aus-spec! Wish I could have been there, but up to yesterday had worked 12 straight 14 hour days. I probably would have driven into a wall without seeing it.

so was it only wet from the rain? and then dried out?
and also noticed.. didnt you guys need helmets?

  13. Blipman

    Blipman Beer hooves totally work

    That was fun

The pad was a little small (DECA in Shepparton has got to be about 8 times the size) but it was still fun, the figure of 8 was great with the steering wheel flick.

Thanks Sandeep and Ryan for organizing this, if you plan it they will come :)

Yeah, the MFB turned up, so the owners were understandably reluctant to get out the fire-hose to wet down the pan even tho' they had told Sandeep and Ryan that they would.

The pan was good and wet for the first few hours, but then "Him upstairs", aka "Huey" decided we had had enough precipitation, and the whole thing dried out really quickly.

Use of helmets was STRONGLY RECOMMENDED by the owners, but not enforced, probably 'cause in the early stages the pan was so slippery... I guess later when the grip improved there was a real chance of up-ending a vehicle, but by that stage, everyone was just doing donuts. (Chad, you failed miserably). I was a "goody-two-shoes" and wore my helmet for each run. Based on the number of times I banged my head against the upper edge of the window frame, it was probably just as well! I think Ben, the 'Syl80' driver (sorry, didn't get your name) and I were the only ones with their own helmets, or who chose to use the ones available on-site. Even Ben chose not to use one during his last run!

That's all well and good that you have no wheel centers (or rather sad, depending on how you look at it. Note too that the Wheel-Police will be after you, re: your front wheels), but the pic after Simon is not an Aus-spec, therefore, not Simon. There was a third RedZed there, but i don't think my piccies show the differences. Note that the venue owners also got confused . . . the two red Aus-specs were both numbered '2'. The pic you're talking about has the plate ending in -008
