    red32 You talkin' to me?

    I'm hooked, I'm hooked, I'm hooked
For the first time in 40 years of driving, I went "genuine" drag-racing! (as opposed to street-racing (which we never do) or just spectating.). Had an absolute BLAST!

VIC Drag Day, Heathcote Raceway, 28/05/05 (Long version)

    I'm hooked, I'm hooked, I'm hooked
For the first time in 40 years of driving, I went "genuine" drag-racing! (as opposed to street-racing (which we never do) or just spectating.). Had an absolute BLAST!

Drove up to Heathcote with the usual Melbourne crew, plus Andrew (Abode) in his Monaro and Myron (RZM friend) in his 350Z. Negiotiated the various Police traps without incident. At one stage I asked Peter S.(Wykked) to drive my car for me, because I was more interested in what the car was capable of, rather than what I could do. He talked me into doing my own driving... it was the biggest favour he could have done for me... Thanks Peter!

To the days events... I am now the proud owner of two bright red TTs. Blondie and RedZedMikey both fell to the awesome power of the NA "DREDZ" Blondie was probably looking after the car (on instructions from Pete), but Mikey was so intimidated that he red-lighted.

The days figures are below. You can see that I improved with age (except the RT on the last run)! The 2 losses were head-to-head against a Z32TT and the Datsun 240Z that I beat in the 8th run (Does anyone who was there know why (red-light or break-out?) and what the ET was... it felt like a good run). No figures for the 8th run... I was in Race Control to pick up my timeslip when they called me for the Final and had to hot-foot it back to the car.

(Sorry about the formatting, it was lost when I transferred from Word. There also seems to be a discrepancy between the MPH measuring equipment in the left and right lanes)

At the end of the day I picked up the trophy for winning the "Zed Challenge (Modern)".
And if you think you've heard the last of this then you're very much mistaken! And Mikey was right, an auto NA can break traction... I even learned how to do a proper burn-out!

    Congrats Doug

I gotta admit, I always scoffed at the thought of draging the zed. To many images of flanel shirts and ugg boots and homeboy wannabes walking around goin "foolly sich maaaaaaate!"
I had fun and if not needing to be home at a reasonable time would have stayed for a few more runs to see if I could nail that elusive 13 sec run.

Yeah well done you NA driver

I personally was  that i didnt get a trophy but i came out with a new PB of 13.4285 on my final run. Technically i won the race against Jen but broke my dial-in time of 13.60sec.
I believe if i could have gone a few more times i would have improved that time but theres always next time:p

I won all my races(8) except 1 by time difference, but it was a great day:thumbsup:
I even took Mark(JEDI-77) for a spin down the quater to show the NA boy what a TT is all about, its a shame he didnt take a second pair of jocks as now i have to clean my passenger seat:D

Well done to Jen and Doug for winning trophies and like always a great VIC outing:zlove:

Looking forward to the offical write up with photos from Mark.

    Max:thumbsup:

Coming soon to a theatre near you ....

Following on from the successes(?) of
    Miss Congeniality,
    Mrs Doubtfire,
    Mr Mom,
    Mr Destiny,
    Mr Wonderful,
    Mr Bean, and
    Mr Magoo .....
Hollywood brings you DANNY DEVITO starring as the championship winning Zedder Doug Lower, aka red32, in 2005's hot new release, MR CONSISTENCY!

Well done Doug, your last 3 runs were 15.53, 15.54 and 15.54, all on a 15.50 dial in. Consistency and being close to your dial in are the keys in DYO racing, and you showed the way!

I've been entering in meets every now and then since 1977, never even got a final, and you go all the way and win on your first attempt. Well done, glad to see you got the bug ... see you out there for the next one. What we need to see now is a match race series - Mr Consistency vs The Jedi :thumbsup::thumbsup:, how much arm twisting are we going to have to do to get that one up?

Risk is going to be busy - I think 2 guys (Max and Jack) did new PB's, and I think 5 newcomers can submit their best times (Doug, Jen, Cletus, Ryan and Marcus).

My own day was a mixed bag, after running 13.8 to 14.0 most of the day, I came out in the first elimation run with a 13.66, backing off! Anyway, this was against a dial in of 13.8 so I was eliminated for going too quick. I reckon if I'd kept my boot in it I would have set a new PB. In an earlier run I also set a new PB speed of 107.6mph by leaving it 3rd instead of changing to 4th.

Watch out for event pics to be posted on The Full Boost website over the next few days.

  8. red32

    red32 You talkin' to me?

Mikey, do you know what happened with the 240Z

in the second to last run? Did he redlight or break-out? I thought he had me beaten by half-a-length as we entered the speed trap at the quarter-mile.
Also, I'm glad I ignored your advice to put my dial-in as 15.55! Would have been outed in the first elimination run :D There was a 15.61 in there somewhere, too

    red32 You talkin' to me?

    Thanks, Trav. Might do better

if I ever get this Unichip issue sorted out. I thought they were pretty reasonable times for the mods I've got and the lack of experience.

RedZedMikey RZM should now be DZM

    He didn't redlight ...

So he must have broken out if he got to the finish line first. The timing slip that you unfortunately don't have would tell the story.

Have you arranged your timeslips in order? The time when you made the run is shown at top right. I was sure your last 3 were 15.53, 15.54, 15.54.

    red32 You talkin' to me?

    Times and Times

    1st Elim 3.35pm 15.5393
    2nd Elim 4.04pm 15.6136
Semi no slip, but you say 15.54
    Final 4.29pm 15.5448
