    Fellow zedders

Experiencing a vibration problem when driving the car particularly in third gear+. Have taken it to NISSAN, they reported it is the tailshaft centre bearing. I'm after a used or second hand one of these if anyone has one available.

Has anyone experienced this problem before?

    See me at TD tomorrow

Max is correct, one-piece is really the only way to go.

    I disagree......>>

A one piece tailshaft is not the only way to go. If the universals are still in good condition then replacing the center bearing is a much cheaper and easier solution.

I agree with your disagreement Pete :D

Have seen many old tailshafts with dodgy uni's at Gavin Wood's, and even GW was an advocate of repairing 2-piece until recently.

Problem is that NEW replacement uni's have too much end-float & cause vibration.

    I thought i was right....

but Pete burst my bubble:LOL: from what i have been told once u get a 1-piece TS you wont need to worry about every replacing CV joints and it eliminates vibration. Well thats what JEDI-77 told me:p

    I must be blessed.......>>

Even with everything I've done with/to my car the universals are still fine (touch wood). I'm probably also on my own in my thinking that Nissan used a two piece tail shaft for more then just noise reduction. If/when my shaft ever needs replacing it will be rebuilt, and will stay a two piece unit. The extra length of the 2+2 gives me slight cause for concern, and while I have no hard eveidence to back that up, I'll rest easier if I stick with the 2 piece unit.

Twice blessed? Well two of us maybe>>>

I was lucky to get my 2-piece rebuilt with (now unobtainable) new uni's, & centre bearing, about 18months ago.

I'll happily stay 2-piece as long as possible :p

I replaced my centre bearing twice in two years, for no improvement.

Finally, I spent $500 on a one-piece shaft, and 20 months later, no more vibration.
You're obviously entitled to have that opinion Pete, but isn't that reasoning also valid for the HICAS Steering (and the Harmonic Balancer crankshaft pulley)?;)

    you're so "old school" pete....:LOL::LOL:

hehehe, c'mon, you know you want a one piece..:)

In regards to my car, I was having lots of vibration probs. Spencer organised a one piece tail shaft for me with serviceable uni joints and have had no probs since. But yeah, my car is a 2 seater and a little shorter...

    Cheers

    2 piece rebuild?

I rung hardie spicer guys in sydney and they said they can rebuild the 2 piece for around $300 including centre bearing. Anyone had any drama's with them? This price did not included remove and refit.
