QLD VH45 V8 Complete Engine Conversion for Z32

    Well my V8 conversion is now done.

    So that means it's time to put it up for sale and move on to something else for the Zed. Honestly I want more power and I don't want to turbo this engine.

    Anyone who is seriously interested can come and see it running and take it for a short drive (unregistered at the moment and I doubt I will get rego). I will pull it out of the Zed after it is sold, I'll also get the welds on the mounts redone by a qualified welder as they are a little rough and wouldn't want it failing on someone else.

    You get everything required to bolt it into a manual NA Z32. To put this into a TT you will likely need to change to a NA clutch pedal. To put it into a auto Z32 you will need to make some changes to the body loom as you would with doing a normal manual conversion (along with the usual bits like gearbox etc.)

    No cutting of the chassis or any body modification other than the bonnet is required. The radiator lower mounts have to be moved over towards the pass side to let the rad hose fit properly.

    No overheating issues whatsoever, if anything runs too cool. It starts easy, pulls strong, particularly from low revs and idles well. I can do a compression test for serious buyers.

    I will freight within Australia at the buyers expense. If it is to be freighted then the bonnet won't be included due to size.

    I'm not interested in splitting it up at this stage.


    What you get:
    • VH45DE, unsure of exact year but is a series 1 jap motor. Was VERY clean inside, either very low k's or very well looked after
    • Timing chains changed
    • Timing tensioners changed
    • Timing chain guides changed to metal backed S2
    • Oil pump chain and guides changed
    • New front and rear crank seals
    • All valve and timing chain covers resealed
    • New knock sensors fitted, but still threw a error code. Bypassed with resistors
    • New copper spark plugs
    • New under plenum water hoses (only really for the idle up control in the throttle)
    • PCV system changed slightly to run non-OEM hoses, functions as per standard with nothing bypassed
    • Custom extractors, 4-1's, 1" 5/8" primaries. Mild steel tube with O2's, 2.5" 2 bolt flange outlet. Doesn't clash with steering or chassis at all. Standard VH starter mount has been modified to let these fit
    • EGR retained, but hole not drilled through into the extractors. All solenoids, wiring and lines are in place
    • Carbon canister solenoids and lines in place, reuse your old carbon canister.
    • Custom sump with baffles and trapdoors, ~4L capacity. Mild surge is still present, more work possibly required to totally eliminate it. Hybrid VH/VG oil pickup. Dip stick tube fitted, modified VG dip stick.
    • Canton 2qrt Accusump with oil filter adaptor block, -10AN pushlock lines and fittings and custom metal reo bar. Pressure switch and electric activation. If the pressure switch is removed and operated full time this should stop the oil surge. Will try this out on the weekend.
    • Custom engine mounts, use a Z32 front lower control arm bush for vibration isolation.
    • 10mm crossmember spacers and longer bolts, not strictly required but gave more bonnet clearance, no noticeable impact on steering knuckle or shaft
    • De-powered OEM steering rack (no boots or tie rods included)
    • Standard Q45 alternator, plugs straight into the Z32 battery loom (battery loom is not included). Standard tensioner and belt
    • Hybrid Q45/Z32 ECU loom, plugs in to the existing Z32 MANUAL body loom. ECU mounts in the stock Z32 location. Also include earthing kit
    • S2 Cali ECU, sometimes throws a EGR temp sensor error (sensor not present in Jap motors and haven't worked out how to bypass just yet), will include another 2 or 3 S1 VH ECU's that I believe are dead as they will only work in limp mode
    • OEM AFM
    • Custom inlet piping, mix of stainless, ally and blue silicone. Includes all hose clamps. No filter included, standard Apexi power intake is what I have been using.
    • Davies Craig electric water pump, S2 electronic controller and loom
    • Water pump blanking plate
    • PWR Twinpass TT radiator with modified outlet to suit EWP. Will make a suitable bracket instead of the zip ties in there currently.
    • All radiator hoses and clamps to suit including heater hoses
    • Thermostat housing modified to clear bonnet
    • Davies Craig 14" thermofan mounted as a pusher. No cooling issues whatsoever
    • Wes VH > VG 5 speed adaptor plate
    • Custom flywheel spacer with longer high tensile bolts
    • JUN NA Cr-Mo flywheel
    • Exedy brass button 5 puck clutch (very nice to drive, not shuddery or anything)
    • OEM fuel pressure regulator and dampener, will throw in the aftermarket FPR adaptor that bolts to the rail. The Turbosmart reg pictured is not included.
    • Brake booster vac line from plenum to check valve
    • R33 GTS-T clutch master with adaptor and lengthened adjustment to suit NA pedal
    • Longer clutch slave rod to suit
    • Braided line from clutch master to slave
    • Modified standard bonnet, aluminium bulge, Aztec Red. Appears to be twisted from when it was made and sits up slightly on the pass side. Bonnet pins would be enough to hold it down.
      Heaps of pictures on how it all fits in, everything labelled and marked appropriately
    • All my spares incl: loom, coilpacks, plenum, lower plenum pieces, IACV, fuel rails, some injectors, tensioners etc.

    Price is $6k ONO.

    I can supply a TT manual gearbox for an additional $500

    May swap for items of interest such as rebuilt forged VG bottom ends and aftermarket turbo's. Would prefer $$ though.

    Questions

    Any plans for selling the plates, arnt there some other QLD's converting to V8 that might want them?

    Any idea how quick it is compared to a TT motor? would a dyno help sell the package if you could show the output?

    Also is the exhaust included?

    Plates can go with the motor for what I paid for them ($400).

    I would say it's faster than a standard TT, but then again I haven't been in a stock TT for about 5 years :p 0-100 was 6.3sec and it bogged down and I missed 2 gears. Should do a mid 5 0-100, will try soon ;) Power delivery is hugely different, the low down torque of the VH is massive compared to a VG, misses the top end though. Cams would really wake it up.

    Not too interested in doing a dyno run. It would be a major exercise, tow truck there, tow truck home. Steven's made ~180rwkw with standard ECU and headers. Mine has MUCH better manifolds on it and a manual gearbox.

    Wasn't planning on selling the exhaust with it, I like those mufflers ;) And the pipeing wasn't done too well by me, I will get a shop to redo it with my mufflers when the next motor goes in.

    Lol! How big is the fish tank? :p

    Haha, trying to swap for some of my own stuff :p

    VH45 power

    My Vh45-NA auto made 180rwkw with OEM ECU, and 200rwkw with Nistune ECU.

    There was a VH45-NA manual S13 with custom header pipes which ended up using my spare OEM series 3 ecu ... made 190rwkw but kept spinning the wheels on the dynos rollers ( don't know what it made when finally strapped down ).

    Can't believe you are selling it after spending a few years on it ... but hay my bro spent 3 years rebuilding a XU1 Torana from the ground up only to sell it when he finally finished ( now its worth $75k ).

    Nah, I think he means the dyno could only register 190rwkw because the tyres were spinning through, so car would be making heaps more. Not that unbelievable since the s13 has a really light rear.

    i wouldnt mind the number plates but im rather poor rite now for obvious reasons . Ill swap you for my Myz33 plates :)

    Maybe a good candidate would be Aza to replace his water logged engine. V8 for the track would be interesting.

    Price seems a bit excessive to be honest, i do note you get the adaptor plate and many other things, but somebody could accumulate all the parts themselves at a later date for 6k. and about 10 hours labour to make mounts headers etc.

    If you want to get it sold i would value the lot around the 4-4.5k mark.

    That's a pretty tuff statement for me to believe. Especially the labour and mounts statement.

    10 hours for labour? :rofl:

    Loom took me 2 days.

    Headers were a good day per side.

    The value isn't from the sum of the parts, but that it works and fits ;) There was a lot of trial and error. It cost me a lot more than $6k thats for sure.


    Like I said, make an offer somebody and we'll see what happens ;) I'm 95% sure what I want to do with the Zed now and would like to get started.

    Nah, I wouldn't want everyone asking me why it's not on a 350Z :p

    I'm surprised that you don't value this kit at closer to 20k based on what you paid for stock heads/cams. :rolleyes:
