    Hey everyone

After looking at a huge range of dyno maps, iv come to ask the question - how does the VG30 with stock turbos/cams make such a flat power curve relative to other motors? A 2JZ turbo can create more power, but has a much steeper power curve with significantly less bottom end than a VG30.

Another question, does the VG30 (again in stocky form) noticeably loose power in the top third of the rev range. and how much does it loose? Is this solely due to the turbos?

thanks everyone, just trying mod my own motor for a fatter torque cruve - learn from the best!

Traditionally V configuration engines make more torque...

...than inline configuratiion engines. I would imagine this would aid alot in power delivery and a flatter curve.

V or Inline Really Doesnt Make F All Difference

It Has more to do with port shape-size intake/exaust runner lenghts, bore/stroke ratio. Even the weight of the crank and the lenght of the conrods. valve sizes.ECU tune, Camshafts, Combustion Chamber Quench Area and shape...ID Put Money On if U Cut A 2JZ in Half Made It into a V6 and kept all of the Above Exactly Identical Then There Would Be no Differnce.

check if the 2jz has 1 or 2 turbos. a z with twin turbos will have a much

fatter torque curve than 2jz with a single turbo

    I disagree with Franz

quite a healthy 3lt motor anyway,
the two smallish turbo's spool up pretty quick and give it a good help along down low..

Meh, going on what I hear through the traps.

    i agree with franz

traditionally a 'v' configuration motor will make more torque than a straight engine.
Also the 'v' engine will have a better power:weight than the straight engine as they are a far more compact engine.
Even though the VG30 is a massively wide donk it it is quite small front to back, and an engine of similar construction (materials etc) and size would almost certainly be heavier in straight configuration.

Not Tryibg To Pick A Fight

But Can You Tell Me 'Exactly' Why A V Engine Will Make More Tourque. Yes The Weight Distrobution Can Be Better With A V But I dunno About Overall Weight?

Is it annoying to have to capitalise all your words?

I think my pinky would get tired from all that shift action.

    V motors

I can't understand why V motors are reputed to make more torque. Traditionally a long stroke gave you torque but because of the limits of efficiency of with regard to piston speed it limited your revs. So for every given engine capacity we had short stroke screamers and long stroke high torque motors. Manifold length and valve timing were also used to compliment the intended end use of the motor.

Maybe it is just an old wifes tale......>>

But I was always told the same. V engines of the same capacity as inline engines develop more torque.
