Anyone seen one of these before? A single turbo VG30DET? Any one know any info? What cars they were used in? Any good?

I've got one in my Cima!

Never driven a Z so i cant compare, but it has a wicked midrange and lots of torque

191Kw standard, and in the Cima they run a non-intercooled ceramic turbo...

    5K1TZX Its all never ending....

    Theres a few on...

    a site called www.z32power.com

A few movies on some single turbo VG30's.

Lush red convertable had a fair bit of power using single turbo setup. Also another project Z just compleated installing a single turbo, has a small movie of it boosting around. Drivability seems shocking with the ultimate lag, hitting full boost around 6 grand only to enjoy a short burst before limiter kicks in at around 7300.

I'd prefer twins any day after watching that.

Would be hell fun bit still ;)

    red32 You talkin' to me?

The Z31 300 ZX Turbo also used the VG30DET

Ver very late in the series?

I had a Z31 Turbo and it was a VG30ET not a DET.. 2 valve per cylinder etc...

ZR300 of 1987 used a VG30DE but not the DET

The Z31 Turbo was always the VG30ET, the SOHC per bank engine. The idea behind fitting the VG30DE to the 300ZR was that it produced much the same horsepower without a turbocharger as the VG30ET. I don't think the VG30DET was ever used in the Z31.
The Nissan Leopard Ultima of 1988 used the VG30DET, and other Leopard models around 1988-98 used some awesome engines - even the VH series 4L V8 and the VQ30DET. Here is a Link to the Ultima and other Leopard models. Interestingly, there was even a VG20DET, which was never used in the Z31 or Z32 because by that time the Japanese laws which made >2l cars much more expensive had been repealed. Nice engines, shame about the bodies!

Yes, i get that alot. Been thinking about playing on that with a fat chrome grille and a bonnet mascot :D

Then apply chrome liberally to the exterior of the car, slam it and voila! One VIP ride coming right up!

Damn i'm wishing i had swapped a DET into it while i had the chance though! And a ZX manual transmission. Hindsight sucks...
