I have it all to bits again...groan.. looking for the oil leak since doing the 100thou service... anyway is there anyone out there in Z land can help me, how does the variable valve operate? Does the inlet cam sprocket have any moving parts ?
I just dont get it, there is the spring, the plate and oil channels from the slots in the rear to slim slots at the front. How does it all work ? before putting it all back together again I want to be sure.
    Cheers

    pop answer...

there is an solenoid/valve at the back of the cam (which has an oil path through the center). when the valve opens oil pressure in the cam changes causes the timing to change.

see this pic from our db that shows the wires running up to the solenoids

    egghau SHIFT_what again?

    Did you find

anything that would be the cause of the leak as you pulled things apart? Like, a seal with a split, bent over or something. All you can get to in there is reasonably simple, the answer has to be in something you did in the seal replace.
