Recently I have noticed quite a loud vacuum noise coming from the engine. It's more noticeable in 1st & 2nd, and gets ALOT louder the higher the engine is revved. Ever since this happened, I have noticed a fairly large power loss after around 2.5/3 RPM. Around 40% is my guess. Dad and myself had a fiddle around today, but due to our lack of knowledge of the Zed, we couldn't pick anything. Any ideas? Is it a simple vacuum leak? If you have any ideas, how much would you guess it'll set me back? Thank you in advanced - I might just have to take it to Pete @ AMEC and blow what little money I have
If you can hear it while driving it must be quite large. Maybe look at brake booster hose, Air regulator hose (Comes off the centre of the balance pipe), and throttle body hoses.
So you think it is a vaccuum leak? Time to do some reading.. I don't even know exactly what it is I should also mention it's an NA Thanks for the reply
Most likely a vac leak. Start the car and give it a rev while sticking your ear around the engine bay until you find the source.
Great advice, thanks Chrispy Whats the deal if/when I find the leak? Will I have to replace the hose, or what ever is leaking.. or is there a way to patch it up?
You might be lucky and it's just a hose popped off. If so put hose back on and replace the clamp and tighten. If it's a busted hose shoot down to your local Repco and find a suitable replacement.
Grab a 3 foot length of garden hose or similar and stick one end in your ear and move it around then engine until you locate it. Easiest way to isolate it
