    Still plodding along. Unfortunately the above mentioned timelines might have been a tad...umm...enthusiastic. Don't get me wrong, alot's been done and I'm happyish with where I'm at, I've had a number of hurdles over the last few months. The major hurdle has been the sump. I envisaged a dry sump from the begining, but then the cost of doing it properly with good quality pump etc was huge. So I looked at just using stock sump but it interfers with the sub frame if the motor is slung at the depth I want it. Hood clearance is a bit of an issue at the moment with the stock intake plenum at the front of the hood, so deciding on custom pipe plenum or cutting a 2" scoop at front of the hood. Everything up to now has been fairly inexpensive as I've done everything myself and the general internals have been in very good nick with only piston rings having to be changed, and that was by choice rather than need seeing everything was out and being balanced etc only things such as mains bolts, seals, tensioner, and a bunch of other minor wear and tear items got swapped out. Had the block checked out, not chemically cleaned as I was worried about the coatings they use on the bores of the alloy block, but crack tested and all OK. Cams were reground and hardened as cams for these are VERY expensive and with FI will give me SFA of a benefit. Tapets (yes...we have tapets :D ) were hardened up as well and the heads ground out as much as possible with 2mm oversized valves stuck in. Stock springs were swapped out with stiffened schrick valve springs as I want to coax the rpm up to about 8,000 as the bottom end will handle it. By rule of thumb the heads on this motor flow rather badly. So I just ported them out a few mm and polished them up, I'll let the turbo's do the rest of the work.

    Adaptor plate for the bellhousing was done by a mob in greenacre, 3/4" billet plate set me back a bit, although I'm a bit concerned about using a spacer on the flywheel, I've got the thought of flex going through my mind, but I guess time will tell. The 850ci 6 speed will cost me about 4500EU so I'm going to destroy at least a few zed boxes before spending that much.

    Once I get the coin together I'll design the dry sump and build the exaust manifolds before ripping apart the zed and working on the mounts.

    The long block is built and cleaned with everything back together just waiting on me to get enough funds together to start on the expensive bits. :(

    The other option...and this is one I'm seriously entertaining, but my wallet isn't...is to remove the back seats, push the front seats back, bring the dash back and bring the firewall back about a foot. It makes alot of sense, but it's a MASSIVE undertaking, and frankly a dry sump will be much cheaper :) as bodywork isn't my forte.

    Anyway, I have a few pics of the motor finished and looking pretty and shiny, but they're still on the camera and the camera's not here, so I'll post them up in a day or so.

    Drill a small hole in the top of the broken bolt and then screw in a small item called an easeout into the hole. Using carefull pressure the broken bolt should screw right out. Check the photo with the adjustable spanner.

    Mate it's been alot of fun, and everything's mapped out in my mind...it's just $$ and time. Just looking at the motor on the stand and thinking...f*&king sump. :bash: Otherwise i'd rip the VG out this weekend, well maybe not as I'll be doing very Aussie things this weekend...but you get the drift.

    is there a white propeller agains the blue sky (bmw emblem) going to be on the bonet? :) umm Nissan 850ci 4t?

    i own a bmw and worked on them, they are bloody tough egines i tell you!

    No BMW emblems left.

    I disagree...I find the BMW engines (the older ones anyway) quite simple and low tech. Especially once you strip them down to the core motor and don't worry about ECS.

    errrr simple maybe (older ones) but they are tough and build very very well

    most of the stuff i play with is with Vanos, even after 500.000km you pull one out and looks like it's been there for 50.000 km!

    Don't forget that big V12 wasn't build for power etc. Was build to be smooth and pull that big ass 7xx limo around

    BMW might not have built it for power, but I have.

    Massive undertaking there.

    From some one who has undertaken taken a massive project, good luck to you.
    As two little bits of advice, not that it seems you need it.

    One: never listen to the people who tell you the reasons why it can't be done, or why you shouldn't do it? (it really makes no sense as we all ready know these, but we are choosing to fight the odds)

    Two: if at any point you seem over whelmed, just stop and remember the saying. "how do you eat an elephant? one piece at a time". What this means is just have a look at your task at hand for today.

    I must admit I looked seriously at the v12 for my project. but I found that the nico bores were not overly friendly to detonation, and are almost impossible to hone, so played on the safe side.

    I take it you are using a aftermarket ECU, any in mind as of yet?

    There's my problem.....

    Istead of feeding on endangered species steaks, I should have been watching what I was doing with the grinder. That way I might have been able to do more on the cars that rub a rag over them .

    Getting better, but probably done some permant damage. Was a bit of a messy cut, as such had a fair bit of trouble putting it back together.
    Luckily it didn;t clean up the bone or take off the thumb completely :eek:
    (would have made it hard to shift gears :eek: )

    Have been getting a little help from the parents (both in and out laws), so I'll make the show with both cars.
    Sorry AndyMac stealing your thread here a little.
    Maybe AndyMac might be able ot make next years ;)
