    so the USDM TT is rated at 300hp whereas the JDM TT is only rated at 264hp, what is the difference between these cars?

    also, on the auto box, what does the little switch do that says "power" and "hold"?

    thnx in advance...

    power = revs harder, shifts down earlier
    hold = revs low
    auto = duh

    hmm, cos when i went for a bash with the switch off it went right to redline so i was just wondering what the power setting actually did

    On our Zed, if you put the trans in "Hold Mode" is stays in the selected gear no matter what.

    example, if you are in "Drive" with the overdrive engaged, it is always in 4th gear. Can be embarrasing if you forget and pull up at the lights, and then take off in 4th gear :)

    There is a WOT switch down by the accel pedal. When you go WOT (wide open throttle) it switches the trans temporarily into power mode. You may also notice the "power Mode" light will come on when this happens :)

    If you mean bash as in "full throttle" then the power mode will

    automatically engage. That's why you would have noticed the revs going higher, even though you haven't switched it on....it goes off as soon as you lift the throttle.

    yes it will hold that gear

    but when you are stationary regardless of what gear you were in, you accelerate in second gear (always skip first). This button is known as 'snow' which is pretty obvious.

    With the hp rating I think it's a case of '' mine's bigger than yours''....

    the Americans tend to be optimistic whereas the Japanese are more conservative. The J-spec motor being rated at 208kw (280hp)is because that is the rated hp limit on cars in their domestic market.

    If you start looking at some specs you'll find that every performance vehicle in Japan produces the same hp (208kw), including manual & auto ttzeds & yet it is widely accepted that the manual produces about 20hp more than the auto. Get the picture ?

    I can't comment personally on the US zeds but the j-spec zeds can see 230kw at the wheels (a sizable improvement over the "rated" 208kw at the crank) with minimal mods.

    Hope this helps

    Actually I was aware of the HP limit on JDM cars, was just wondering if there was actually any difference between Japan and the US. However I was led to believe the HP limit was 280PS or 264hp or approx 206kW...

    Thnx for all the replies, you have all been a great help.

    EDIT: but im wrong as 264hp is only about 196kW... :angry:

    There are slight differences with the US-spec

    Due to different emission laws the US version has the addition of pre-cats which reduced the power output slightly.
    Then in 96 the variable value timing had to be dropped to comply with the OBDII emission standards reducing the power by 15Kws

    The US-spec also had adjustable suspension that switched between sports and standard mode depending on your selection.

    Basically the US-spec had slightly less performance than the j-spec. Pretty much the opposite of what Toyota did with the Supra.

    your pferdestarke conversion is wrong

    1 pferdestarke = 0.9863201 horsepower
    280 pferdestarke = 276.1696204 horsepower

    But regardless the Jap TT is rated at 280 hp, not PS.
