apart from replacing it with a working one is there any other way of testing the damn thing? i'm not getting any error codes and at this point its the last elimination item before doing yet another plenum pull.

or is there anyone in perth that can lend me a working one asap for like a couple of minutes just to see if mine is faulty?

Check the wiring plugs are all tight and

tensioned properly so making a solid contact. Test procedure is here (On this page, click the image to go to the next screen which shows the test procedure.

    CAS is simple to test

Simply mark the position of the 3 10mm bolts that secure the cas in place, remove the bolts and pull the cas of, keeping the harness plugged in and switch the ignition on and turn the spindle attached to the cas at the back slowly, you should hear the injectors all clicking, if you do it's good, if you don't it's bad. The cas sends a signal to the ECU when TDC is achieved, the ECU then returns the signal to the injectors to fire, so if it's bad, the injectors won't do anything.
As your a series 3 model, as far as i know it's only series 4 onwards where changes wre made to the manufacturer of the CAS, it is known for these to fail from time to time.
Oh and if cas is good, simply replace in the same position as you marked when removing and your timing should be pretty much spot on, worth checking at some point later though it is still at 15 degrees.
BTW, what problems are you having ? simple non starting ?
    Hope that helps
